Bob, if you go to the image of the shaders and textures on 3d texture the first on is called ' Brownian' :ugeek:

here is my first material sampler shots..it works ..I don't believe it, I thought it might be impossible to see a material before render as the materials don't really exist in truespace..you will have to click on it to update though..woot :bananatyping:

it's crude at the moment, I will give two options..on a sphere or plane..haven't figured out smoothing yet but it should be shown on here too I think..going to need one of those ts striped backgrounds too :bananadevil:

Emmanuel, having trouble putting that background in..vray won't render my preview..not sure why..

Nigec, what is the background in sketchup? grey? it's grey in maya..might be why, not really sure.. :?

Hi Stan,
in sketchup the vray tools are like this:

There's tool bar icons for options, material, render buffer, render, pointlight, rectangle light, sphere and infinite plane

I've been working on the shader system and here is a peak at the finished simbiont shader.

Clicking on the attributes button brings up the attributes aspect.(actually the export aspect) It will update on changing darktree files except the first time when you must use manual load button.

cool :bananadevil:

Is this going to work on the workSpace side of trueSpace?
Aren't the simbiont shaders made for the Modeler side or are they
Rendering engine specific. Now they can be used on both sides?
I'm confused.

The vray standalone project is a workspace renderer..I have access to the darktree shader system through vray as shader as long as I created an interface for it, which I did. Hence my simbiont..cool heh...but these darktree shaders are not transferable to modelside, like any workspace shader it can't cross the bridge.. You will have a darktree system on both side though... :bananamouse:

I've been working on getting shaders working properly(most work). I am also creating the texture nodes and shader nodes for each now(long job).. :bananatyping: I now have my texture server working ..woot.. the shader server wil be easy now.. ..the system will work as though its a dx shader to load the inital shader, then you use the panels I showed previously to load the additional layers of textures and shaders by first clicking on the tex or shader button on the shader...I have only linked up colors for now to textures but will figure out down the road the rest of the possible links. It is alot to figure out..

oh..here is a pic with the background shader(called use_background), had to figure out if that worked to see what it did. Can you guess which one it is?. :bananadevil:
Attachments
The texture buttons are used to load textures..it calls up the texture selection panels(texture server) to the stack the when one is chosen it brings up that texture in stack..

Thanks Jason.. :D

Here are some shaders with textures..my skill at setting them up is still crude..they are not like ts vray shaders, they will take some getting use to....
I'm am now coding the texture panels data into the system, that is why there is a few kinds in the scene..the texture server is working well.. :bananadevil:
too bad the subsurface scatter shader is not showing right, its in lower right. I think its lighting because I had it showing nice in an earlier test but lost it..

yup coooool! that is also the last part of the main vray panel system as per the vray manual here http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/maya/150R1/ ..woot..the only thing left to do is the default panel..not sure what to put there..

I started on layered textures tonight..for now a max of four layers. :bananatyping:

yes for the main vray panel system, not sure what default should have on it yet.(ts default aspect).. still lots to do though..
I battling with the texture layers now..they seem to work but I can't get the texs showing properly. In glass the texs are in the shadow but not showing well otherwise...It could just be my lack of understanding the shaders, not sure..it might be in code. going to take a break ..that always helps..

now just to code the panel values into the light fnset.. :bananatyping:

here is some of the strange things you can do with lights with vray.
a meshlight and an omnimax with textures for color.

you can also setup any object in scene to receive only light from lights on the list for that object(which is not shown here)..very cool

Is there any interest in this project beyond the very few who I know that are? Testing has begun and I am starting to see finished product coming closer.. :bananadrum:

Great work! :bananacheers:
just to know: how will be the final work? a file to install on the workspace as a rsobject? What about the old vray installed with this new feature (it is a problem to have 2 versions of Vray)? the standalone Vray appears as a new render engine (if we have it)?

There will be a few rsobj's, one in the scene (the vray render setting node) some tools placed in the system area , toolbar icons and 3 libraries added to the main library(lights,textures,shaders)....you will have to use the lights and materials provided.

This and the old vray dont mix at all.. You will have to create scenes using vray standalone lights and materials as they are non transferable. So old vray is not affected but you can't just render with the standalone using old vray scenes, lights and materials must be changed, same in reverse.

It will not appear as a new render engine as it is external to truespace. Really it's an exporter to vray for maya standalone.

Stan, you are doing a huge work and all the Workspace users here will appreciate this great tool.

I was very enthusiastic about this Vray Standalone for trueSpace. But the need for specific materials makes it a Workspace-only solution, since the Bridge would destroy the Workspace setup.
And this is a problem for me, because I don't use Workspace at all (I never could get used to its Material Editor or the Link Editor, also I miss all the plugins and tools and smooth/reliable workflow available in Modeler).

This restraint (lights and material edition in Workspace) can not fit in my current workflow, unfortunately.
From a Modeler point of view, Vray Standlone for TrueSpace forces me to split my workflow and use a different application (Workspace) for material edition and lightening setup. This is somehow like using SketchUp/Rhino/C4D/Maya... with the difference that SketchUp/Rhino/C4D/Maya's tools are more efficient than Workspace when it comes to a professional workflow in material edition or lightening setup.

For a pure Modeler user, Simon's Dribble was probably the best bridge for external renderers like Vray Standalone...

emanuel is right, i have it the same way - using modeler. But anyway its a great chance for tS users to have ANY new rendering oportunity added (as vray internal has some bugs, that cannot be fixed, coz we dont have sourcecode)

I also deeply hope that someone will be able to develop dribble to next version which will be fully functional and fully any renderman engine complient, so I can use others, not only 3Delight.

anyway keep it up stan. big respect to you.

sorry for the offtopic.

Hey count me in Stan! RealTime rendering is nice but it only goes so far.
I think, a lot of people are interested, but are not interested in posting
on the forums. They prefer to just get what is available for their purposes.
The real test will be the number of downloads.

Thanks Jason. :D

I can't really make this for modelside because of the node base shader system. Never mind the lights types that don't exist. I like model side and use it alot but scripting vray standalone is the best solution, Rsx would have been too much work. This will be as close to VRay for Maya as I can make it.

I am trying to make it so you can model on model side and cross over because I will be doing that too for my own projects.
I just yesterday created the material recovery system for crossing the bridge to model and back..works automaticly. It will need more testing but the cross over part works fine(I have been using it in my layers system to keep layer numbers from screwing up when coming back from model), I just haven't tested creating a new object in model for the result in material workspace completely..Its suppose to be default white.

Here is a pic of multi material on a few objects an the PSD texture on the sphere..finally got the psd working properly.

here is the new material editor I'm testing..might not need the buttons on bottom, but they probably will be needed for control changes to update. It seems to work on auto for new material and inspect but is slow..

well my tests with material editor got frustrating because the watch dog which usually wakes up if triggered manually once isn't working in the material editor node, it only seems to work on auto if the LE is open to inside the ME node where the watch dog is (not really watching, more asleep that awake) ..so I went for a ski and when I got back I figured hair needs testing..so here is a sphere with dreds. :bananacheers:

yes Jason I went cross countryskiing..I'm sure you mean downhill though.. :D

It seems finding how the standalone advances frames was the easy part. Getting my script to do what is needed without screwups will take awhile. LOL I now have frames being rendered with my transform movements showing after a few coding attempts.. :bananatyping:

see if this gif loads its a very crude ani made with vray. you must click on gif to see ani, as it only animates on next page with full view. Vray only makes numbered files for animation as far as I can tell so I made a gif from them..
