3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread : )
Ok folks.... here comes a new feature for this forum, lol
"3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread"
In this thread I will post OBJ format Models I created which are what I call "OBJ Soup," objects which can be used and re-used in many many ways, and I freely give all these models to you as Public Domain Objects to use as you like in your own renders, worlds, or whatever.
I am hoping this will become a lot of fun for us all in the months ahead, I will add a ton of strange objects here and you are free to add your own to the thread too (provided the models are in OBJ Format only and you provide a small render of each model so people have an idea what they are downloading before they do).
I will add two OBJ Soup Models after this opening thread, and I hope this not only sparks some fun commentary but also some posts from each of you with renders showing us the creative ways you used the objects!
Sound like fun?
Let's try it on for size together! : )

Re: 3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread : )
oh, a note on textures and materials....
Many of the objects I will be posting do not have textures or will have ZBrush materials which are not usable in other softwares, so you will have to apply your own textures or materials to these.
The renders are done so far in Vue d'Esprit4 using procedural Vue4 Materials, so the objects will not look like the renders when you open the objects in your own 3D Software.
Just a head's up, lol

Thanks, I plan to! I hope others do too with some of their own cool re-usable Public Domain OBJ format objects! : )leonregis wrote:Strange and cool, post more works
Should become a lot of fun to see renders from folks on how they used or modified these! : )

Sorry for soiling your topic but, how I create a re-usable object and what it means? Those objects are compatible with Truespace? Can I create re-usable object in Truespace?
I read your introduction but don't gathered... Sorry =/
Hope start to do my strange re-usable objects
Thanks

Re: 3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread : )
By the way...
that OBJ Soup Entry Two above....
that same object was used in the following artwork of mine here:
vi ... 5503#p5503
I loaded it in Vue4, and without moving it I added a generic sphere to the scene and used the generic sphere as a boolean cutter to remove the smooth spherical surface of the model. Then I created a second generic sphere and used a smooth diamond procedural material on that for the bubble in which the human model appears.
There are many ways to use these models, booleans, painted meshes, many ways! Enjoy!

"re-usable" just means that you can use the models over and over in many different ways.leonregis wrote:Sorry for soiling your topic but, how I create a re-usable object and what it means? Those objects are compatible with Truespace? Can I create re-usable object in Truespace?

To load the objects into trueSpace Modelside use the LUUV plugin to import the OBJ Mesh.
To Load an OBJ Model into trueSpace Workspace directly (avoiding the many issues which can happen when you move a Modelside object to the Workspace side across the trueSpace "bridge") you will need to purchase the OBJ Importer Plugin made by Froo. He can explain this all better too. : )
Most other 3d software programs load OBJ format models, so you can use these models in many many programs, not just in trueSpace.

Thanks, Great Thread!!!

Re: 3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread : )
Thanks 3dvd.
Leon, if you make something in trueSpace, you can post it to these forums and tell everyone:
" use this. I made it. It's free. "
3dv is saying, 'save it as an OBJ format file'. Since most 3d apps use this standard 3d file format.
OBJ format has been around a long time.
By default, truespace Workspace scenes are saved as RsScn format, and objects are saved as RsObj format.
Model side scenes are saved as SCN format, and objects are saved as COB format.
So you need to 'Save As' OBJ format.
I was going to do something with the OBJ package but real life issues have taken precedence for now. Plus
my computer is messed up right now; can't run tS. gah. I will return to it once things settle.

Lol, the forum download counter here is way off... this thread as of this post has only had 38 views, a few of which were mine and I didn't download my own models I uploaded them, but look at the download counter for the two files above after only a few hours being here and 38 views, lol :
Skin_alphas_01.zip [836.35 KiB]
Downloaded 209 times
EyeEffect1.zip [3.28 MiB]
Downloaded 101 times
310 downloads in only 38 views over a few hours? No way, hahaha!

Re: 3DVD's Wild and Crazy OBJ Soup Thread : )
Thanks for the explanation froo! News about your plugins?
3DVD I think that the download counter has some kind of problem, he already gets crazy in a Galane post about a cube...
Or someone is tempting to shutdown the server... O<O fear; I hope not.
