A question for you Splinters.
Do you have to be careful as to which colors you use and how bright they are or how intense they are.
Being that your material is printed is there any special considerations you have to be aware of?

Yes and no. I no longer have these printed; they are available in epub format on ibooks and barnes and nobles nook store as well as from lulu.
However, because i am using a laptop, i have to proof the books on an ipad to check the colours and contrast etc. as some can look quite a bit different. My experiences with lulu as a publisher in print form have been a bit hit and miss.

Splinters earlier you said that you model your figures for the use of a still image.
Does this mean that you do not do any rigging on your characters and each time you want a new pose you have to model the arm or any other body part in a different angle to show this?

Very fine work as usual, it's great to see your stuff again, not much I can offer in the way of C&C in your images since they're all spot on

I'm not sure if you've spotted it but there's a bit of a typo. Page 32, "Despite what happened last time and", the space is missing between 'time' and 'and', not sure if you've spotted it. The only other issue I can see is that the star background gets in the way of the words just a little, would it work to fade the background out a bit more? That's not overly critical just me being curious

It's looking very nice, definately want to see more

Don't worry mate its a kids book but if curiosity got the better of you, there is always itunes card which you can pick up in most shops. Looks good on iPad; not sure about iphone.

Yup for the £180 I paid this laptop has been a real workhorse and still going strong. Can't believe how people discard technology when it is no longer 'new'. For what I do this can wipe the floor with some £700+ laptops that are all singing and dancing media machines.

Thanks for the feedback and positive comments. I have Limbo to do now and already plotting out the next two DSD books. Have another Harold in mind and...well, you get the idea...

Already planned out the final book...lets just say things come full circle and Doris has to disguise her rather 'futuristic' looking space craft.
Only one car I know of with 3 wheels here in the UK and something of a joke with us Brits. Lets just say she is 'reliant' on it.
It will just be a cardboard cover so expect a bit of tape and some staples in there as well.

Still working on this (story mainly) but I got sidetracked promoting the site and writing Limbo (another delayed project).

My goal now is to finish these outstanding projects (two Doris books, Limbo and Bob and Blob) then review the whole thing and tidy up and expand the site as a commercial venture. Yes, I know that is probably the wrong way round...

Volumetrics, lighting, and colors set the moods. Motion blur on the laser zap picture gives a good action look. Excellent.

The basement dwellers and the dome people is like the Morlocks and the Eloy from The Time Machine. I think your stories are usually more original. Just that idea that is like the old story though.

Pretty sure you can make comparisons between any two stories/films/TV shows. The time machine was the last thing on my mind when writing this. There are lots of influences in there and they are for kids after all

I always had buck Rodgers in mind actually. As for the age thing, UP would be a great influence to cite if I hadn't written the basic story for this half a decade before that film came out.

I didn't mean that you were intentionally copying or basing any of this on it. Rather that your stories' (sp?) elements, or the use of them, are not usually so close to classic or well known ones. Might be good if pieces of these stories remind kids of other stories. That could encourage them to read more.

Agreed, comparisons are easy since many stories will share certain elements. "Pensioner in Spaaaaaace" is found in ... um uh ... some other stories like ... oh uh ... now that is original!

I hope Doris is liked by readers and makes you a ton of money. How are your other books and Buddy World doing?

Well, third book is written (although it takes months of tweaks before I am happy with it) but its fleshed out and illustrations are rolling in.
The epilogue is almost exactly the same as the prologue but in a different environment so that was fairly ease to make. Here are a few pages.

Cheers guys. I am off camping for the weekend but I have another 6 weeks of school holiday so I hope to make good progress on this. I was finding that TS was really struggling with some complex renders with volumetrics, HDRI etc. even on an i7 macbook with 1gb graphics and 16gb ram.
Stuck a 500gb EVO SSD in last week and not only does the machine boot in seconds and run buttery smooth....renders are much faster as well.

So, if you are experiencing the same, try a SSD upgrade!!

Well guys, that's it. After god knows how many years I finally finished the book...or should I say books. It was such a big project that It would have taken decades to complete and I would, no doubt, have given up. But, by making it three books I was able to chip away at it and its done.
DSD is one of my oldest projects with WIP on the very early tS forum.
It feels very strange having finished this and at such a pivotal point in my life where I find myself out of the teaching profession for the first time in 22 years.
I will post a few of the finished pages up for those who have followed this rather long journey...might even be 20 years!

It might not actually be any good as a piece of literature but I stuck to it and completed it.

Thanks for the comments guys (yes, even you Saul). I still have one more project to complete/develop then its onto something new.
I still pop in here from time to time but work got the better of me over the last few years so progress was slow. Good to see some old faces (names) still around here.
I have tried other software (Sketchup is a standard in the classroom) but nothing offers me the familiarity and ease of use that tS does. I have not yet come across anything mechanical or organic that I cant make with the program so, for that reason, I plan to continue using it for the foreseeable future.
