Any previous versions of tS released for free?

Post by Scifi Nut »

Will there be any tS5.x or 6.x be released for free :bananalove: by Caligari (Microsoft) for those who have older Computers???.
I have found tS 7.6 to be useless on a computer with 1.5Gig of ram. It keeps on saying that the system has ran out of memory, so I have to close it an give up on doing what I want to. I have the previous versions 1 - 4.3 that was given away on the net and on PC Magazines. It would be good for people who have netbooks to have program that will run on them. :bananatyping:

I'm using a Toshiba M60 Laptop with XPproSp3 80gig Drive & enough space for the swap file to expand. It's happened during boolongs operations & rendering. The scene/cob files are around 100 - 200+ megs & happens when just started & any backround operations that can be safely shutdown are. I'll soon be using a P4 3.2gHz Ht ,PciX, with 4gig of ram & will try the latest 7.61beta. I've read somewhere that the combinenation of the new 3D workspace & the 6.6 modeler section make it resource hungry. So if you want to do large model/scenes you need a lot of memory.

If you are staying on just one side, Model or workspace. Have you tried turning off the bridge between the two so it does not take teh extra resources?

Hi Scifi Nut,

The answer to your question is "no". When Caligari and Microsoft released trueSpace 7.6 last year, all previous versions ceased to be available to new users. Caligari and Microsoft still own the copyright to all previous versions and they have decided that these versions may no longer be distributed to new users.

That said, when Microsoft pulled Caligari's funding a couple of weeks ago, Roman Ormandy encouraged everyone to immediately download anything they wanted to keep from the Caligari website before it goes away. This included past versions of software for which we had paid. Unfortunately, the window of opportunity on the latter appears to have passed. Both the personal Caligari download page (http://cart1.caligari.com/ebuy2/enterdownloads.asp" ) and the Caligari user name and password page (http://cart1.caligari.com/forms/memberform.asp" ) seem to be offline now. With these webpages offline, it is no longer possible to retrieve older software from past purchases at Caligari.

Since Roman's original announcement, we have been informed that portions of http://www.caligari.com" will be available for about 5 months (beginning June 2009). So the clock is ticking and it would be wise not to delay downloading any of the remaining things that you want to keep.

Fortunately the public download page for trueSpace 7.6 and 7.61 is still working (http://www.caligari.com/downloads.html" ). And in case you didn't notice, Caligari and Microsoft have also released 7.61 compatible versions of trueServe and truePlay on this same page. Plus there is a 7.61 compatible trueSpace SDK available for developers.

In summary: New users can only download trueSpace 7.6 and 7.61. These are the only versions that are available and this may cease when the Caligari website goes dark. Past users who purchased earlier versions were able to also download them from Caligari for a limited time and that time appears to have passed.

Best regards, First Light

It would be good if tS became open source if it is being totally shutting down by Caligari/MS. :superbanana:
Maybe if there was enough people asking maybe they would release the earlier versions or even :bananamad: let people give copies away on the net :bananamouse: :superbanana: :bananadrum: :bananathumb:

There is a forum topic on the Calgari forum regarding open sourcing... so far 52 people have answered the poll. If anyone wants to help you might sign up for the caligari forums, find that topic, vote and make a comment.

There has been no information to date from Caligari/MS regarding distribution after the date that the Caligari site is shut down.

I,ve been trying for a long time to register with the Caligari forum but they seem to loose me all the time because I could never login & when I looked through the members list I was not in it  Now you can't even register since it's now going to close & you can't access the registration page. :bananasad:
