Fantasy land

Post by marcel »

Here are two objects created for future illustration. The cup will be set with precious stones. The atmosphere is medieval style with an oriental touch. The subject is a treasure of an imaginary country. I'll make jewelry and money.

Thank jeffroig. Add emeralds and pearls to the cup and a temporary background to finalize materials.

Textures and caustics are looking good! Very good. What does green light + red light mean? (i hope the answer is not obvious or i'll be kicking myself!)

Thank Draise.
There is no caustic. It is a simulation. the interest is to draw the caustic without investigating reality but rather a concern with art. I place the effect where i want even if it is not real. A personal touch, like a painter would. Also i don't need to cast shadow for the glass and don't use transparency shadows. I win a lot of computing time.
I use 2 local light, squarred falloff with distance:
- intensity with negative value to create a colored shadow (complementary color, it is why i use a green color).
- intensity with positive value to create a colored spot light (color of the wine).
It is also possible to ad a projector light with an appropriate image to create light of caustic more graphics. Maybe at the end, i will see that.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing on the how-to! Very much appreciated. I was going to skip caustics renders with projector lights, but negativing intensity is an even better idea! I wonder if you can do that with GPU based DirectX lights....

Where are the negative and positive lights for the wine Marcel? Do they make the caustic effect?

I used negative intensity projector lights to put the petroglyphs on my Blades Magazine rock.

@ Theuns : yes trueSpace. Model side and Lightworks render engine.
@ Finis : in reality caustics create light but also shadow around that do more contrast. Here the negative light create dark zone around the red zone on the floor.
Now I ad a projector light with a "caustic image". It is just a graphic problem to resolve.

FANTASTIC!!!! Love yoru textures! Will you give us hints as to how you shade it so succesfully rusticly golden?? Oh oh, and did you use a displacement map on the sphere? Or is it just a bump? Very nice model!

Hi Draise.
The metal is made with the multilayer paint shader. Flake type : gold and hight value for metallic option. I ad also another layer with a texture map (photo) and a leather displacement to dirty up the effect. The globe is a simple bump map with a good image with real elevation from the Nasa. Render with Lightwork on model side. No simulation of caustic at this time. Maybe later.
Here is an update of the object because some leaves was hidden at the last render. The globe is a little bigger.

Great designs!

I think the blue pearls and blue glass look too much alike. They are too similar in color ... unless it is supposed to be like that to show some association or connection between these items.

@ Finis : yes the glass is too blue. I reduce the color. Thank.
@ draise : My web site is not updated since a few years and i need to change it. More simple with Less sample but better quality.
It is not the final image, here is the next step ...
@ Theuns : some wire for the fun.
ad windows, diamonds and rings for the final image.

Some details : rings, exploded carafe to see the structure of the 3d. Many polygon because it is for a hight definition image.
The "caustic map" is used with the projectors.

HD does not support imperfection. I need to resolve every detail, even the smallest. I need to think otherwise than through the screen. Zoom don't destroy textures. It is very important. Here is two details ...

Tnx for sharing marcel, they look stunning. High detail models there. Were all the fine detail made by hand? Like the base of the globe? Lovely!

Will you share some of the material and shaders settings you used to get those gorgeous items with the reflection?
