OurSpace User List

Post by froo »

Hi everyone!
I understand the privs.xls file pretty well now.
In order to set permissions on objects in OurSpace, I need to add each username and the password of their choice to the privs.xls file for each space.

If you want, you can just post your username here, and PM me / email me with your password of choice, or I can just make your username and password the same. Up to you.
Unfortunately a user can't enter a password on their own, so you need to think of something that is unique to the OurSpaces, and not used for any other reason.

Ok gotta go! Shoot me a PM, or email me:

excellent thanks guys!

I was thinking, as another possibility to simplify things,
the password could also be just your username, or everyone could use the same password.

The only reason for the uname and passwd is, for spaces in which the priveleges are enabled.
Most of them will be like this.

The good thing is, I can set the priveleges for each user, for specific spaces.
For example, if 3dv wants to create a special space, without others moving stuff around, his permissions will include 'edit' priveleges, which include add, delete, and modify. Other users do not have edit priveleges in that space. However, if Leon wants to work on a space, he has edit permissions for that space, while others do not.

Looking forward, I can see where this can get out of hand. Perhaps that's why there is the other option for privelege settings, the 'privelege server', which may be a computer dedicated to the task. But that's aways off. :bananacheers:

EDIT:
I will start locking down some of the objects in the spaces we have so far, to avoid accidental edit/deletion. I'll letcha know when it's done!

Very cool experiments, and the results of this have important business implications. If all this doesn;t get in the way of avatar systems development as a priority then sure, this is all vital at some point and soon no doubt for us all.

Sounds like the privs are far more robust in potential already than I anticipated and that's great!

I will be busting tail with you an avatars this week, that's my priority one now! :bananacheers:

I don't think it's going to get in the way.
I did try using the 'improved' avatar system which was dismantled,
but it did not work.

But I posted about an approach to resolve that, at least we can get a useful system I think.

Yep and it all caught my eye bigtime already thanks!!! :worship:

This week we'll kick some tail on all this together... it's time to turn all this work into some serious cash for each of us I think! :D

yes I believe so Leon.
I think we have to use the DefaultPrivs server for that. I saw that in the manual; need
to play with it to make sure we do it right. :geek:

The default privs, though, only allow 'read only' access to the scenes;

what I can do is add the folks I know who have dropped in, to the privs.xls file, so they
can get in and add stuff if they want, to accessible scenes. That will be a good start.

Or maybe just look at the user list here and do the same thing.
