Just a few images, not that fancy. Trying out some tricks with different kinds of lights to get a Global Illumination look.
Rendered in tS 6.6 I'll post a wireframe image a.s.a.p. with some explanation what lights, how much etc. I've used to get that G.I. look. Maybe helpfull for those without vray.

To use gi solutions or not is always a tradeoff in time.
If you use Gi render solutions it takes less time to set up but more time to render
but to set up more lights to fake gi can shave off from render-times.
Some people even used the spinning light trick ....
See page 664..

Looks very impressive Buzz, wonder if this couldn't also be used for real time type renders? hmmmmm

Re: Testing fake G.I.
lol, how many lights is that
. One trick with real time to simulate more then one light while limited is using projector light with grid pattern texture or circular pattern which will light up an area. In between the pattern can be varying shades of grey or any other color to blend in the brighter spots. So a projector light could simulate hundreds of lights in a sort of fashion depended upon distance from objects and light settings. Now if this could make it look like Buzz's awesome work I don't know but something to try out.

Interesting topic which I am very interested in since I don't have Vray.

The lighting in this looks amazing. I've been making some new light rigs in the WS with good results, including an AO rig. But the fake GI method I haven't really played with. What is the theory?

IMO Ambient occlusion is the key for Faking global illumination in realtime..
