My mistake, the 16 oz. soda ban is for March '13. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/supe ... jqawvfuXRL"

Isn't that just a polite way to try and deal with the sewage system capacity limits? They don't really want to stop you from drinking... it's draining more than 16 oz at a shot they are trying to stop. Budget, budget, budget.... :bananaclaus:

I tried it once and didn't like the feeling of being out of control. It also made me extremely paranoid as I spent the night in a hall closet hoping no one would find me "stoned".

Sorry, I don't need it and find it a smoke-laced excuse for a lack of mental and physical discipline.

I don't care for the stuff personally either, haven't touched it since I was a young fella. But many people use it, and I do not consider them criminals for this. What do I care if they wanna smoke pot and sit there and eat cheetos and watch cartoons. I don't want my tax dollars to go to putting them in prison, and they don't deserve to be in prison. It's just a waste of time and money to chase around people with pot and fill the prisons with them.

Unfortunately, we have systems where all who pay tax or regulatory costs are forced to bear the burdens of the behavior of others. Pothead's health problems* or self inflicted poverty become our costs under collectivist systems where we pay for their health care or give them welfare and food stamps etc. Legalizing it removes some costs but other costs remain as long as shared consequence remains.

No one is anywhere near perfect. I'm certainly not. But James has a point about issues of character.

Marijuana does not have to be smoked to get the effect, that is the preferred method I guess because it hits you fast and hard, but it doesn't have to cause cancer in any way and is often used by cancer patients to relieve the pain. Too much Mcdonalds has serious long term effects too, but where do we draw the line on giving up our preferences in life.

As far as character, I guess I can agree on that somewhat, I never have seen anyone grow kinder or more intelligent through marijuana use, despite their claims that it does so. I know a few adults that use it and function fine, but I think most using it are younger people looking for a recreational high, maybe I'm naive on that I don't know. Anyways, I'll stick to a few occasional beers.

As far as having bad experiences like James on marijuana, unlikely to happen if the product is regulated and distributed responsibly. That is another issue with it being illegal, few know where the stuff is actually coming from or if its cut with something.

I am probably thinking about this too much for someone who doesn't smoke it, I just don't think it's criminal.
