Happy Independence Day!

Cool map Steinie. Amazing how many countries have holidays related to (their) independence on the 4th.

For those in other than USA or who went to US public schools (like me):

Today in the US we celebrate the Declaration of Independence from July 4, 1776 (here). It contains several concepts that are good for everyone, US or other. Among these are that people have rights and those rights do not come from government but are beyond the authority of any government: "... all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights ...". The the correct source of government authority: "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed". And what it takes to defy tyrants: "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."

Much of the declaration is a list of grievances against the king. Read them. Sound familiar? Happening now? Here's a couple that stood out to me.
"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance."
