Re: Quest bow and arrows
Wow, what kind of game is this for?
It's a cool design but since I've done some shooting myself, I can tell you already that for real this bow wouldn't work
The shaft is to thin, the re-curved part is definitively to thin and the arrow head is way to heavy. Also, if that shiny thing is some sort of holder for the arrows, you might want to consider resizing it a bit and possibly change the material to something lighter...
Hmn... did I forget something, oh yes, the little balancer in front is to short and the wrong material to provide any real balance, also the split arrow design might be really cool and will save Robin Hood a lot of trouble on any competition but it will interfere with the natural movement of the arrow when fired. Also the positioning of the "feathers" will make it really hard to actually fire the arrow.
lol, so much for me. I bet you're gonna hate me for this but I really thought it had to be said. Note also that I do not see any other problems with the design than the previously mentioned things.
btw, the texturing looks really realistic, good job on that!

This is sort of how a re-curved bow is usually bent.

Well, it's for a game in which creatures defy the forces of science as in a fantasy world.
I suppose a map of Sweden doesn't really look like Sweden does either. Doesn't mean it's not representational and suits its purpose for which it is designed.

Re: Quest bow and arrows
Yeah but still, that bow is gonna crack as soon as anyone pulls it
I wouldn't want to face creatures who defy the forces of science with that bow... Anyway, that's just me.

fine, I deleted the bow so it doesn't offend anyone for being a fantasy creation.

Interesting, did you want to remove it? I mean, I can't say that it was entirely necessary... All I said was that you might want to put aside the fantasy style to improve your model. Anyway, my advice wasn't really something you had to follow.

Re: Quest bow and arrows
Peace be with you.... .. .
Now now boys lets play nice..
I remember the first time I posted a work in progress (wip)..
I asked for oppinions... And boy I shure got them..
The fine members of this forum tore my scene apart...
They also gave me a lot of exelent advice wich has rely improved my
skills and artwork...
I know it hurts to have somone point out problems with you work.
Especialy when you are happy with it...
So try not to take any advice as an attack... I've been part of this forum
from about the third day it started and I have found that the members here
are a great bunch of folks... And they rely just want to help..
Just patting you on the back will not make you a better 3d artist..
And the rely great part is that unlike a lot of forums you will get answers and
advice and predy quick..
Oh ya... I liked your bow just the way it was.. I believe that in fantisy work
you dont have to stick to real world paramiters... But thats my oppinion..
In closing I just want to say that The Forum Is Your Friend a real friend
not just someone who will tell you what you want to here..
Keep working and keep posting.. You wont regret it..

Re: Quest bow and arrows
Good point Ranger. As a friendly gesture, I also removed my own bow and posted it in a separate topic: vi ... =60&t=2277
Sorry James, I never meant to insult you or your model. I just thought it looked like you were asking for tips on how to improve it... Naturally, me being without imagination went on all about how it could be more realistic... Anyway, friends?

Re: Quest bow and arrows
I liked the bow. It had the right emotional impact and look for a fantasy game. Back when I played D&D that is just what I would want a character to have.

Re: Quest bow and arrows
Well this is a 3d art forum and this was posted in the Work In Progress forum after all.
I think it's expected to get positive feedback, comments, and critiques on the models posted.
It should be, anyway.
Nowhere did I see any disparaging remarks about the model. Only suggestions for additional effort
for improvement. These can be implemented or not. That should be up to the modeler.
Hm MikomDude... maybe I should wear an orange vest in your neck of the woods then... so I don't get
shot.

Re: Quest bow and arrows
Thank you Froo
I was a bit out of line though... Going on about his model like that wasn't a good idea, I mean, I literally pointed out every single fault I could find, I really could have been more selective. I was actually quite shocked when he removed it.
Well anyhow... I apologized, I hope that will make us all go back to the happy little community we are

Re: Quest bow and arrows
I want to see the bow!
Even with Mikom behavior (that already apologized) you overeacted james, as Mikom I usually bring things to the realistic side, however I always respect fantasy and I tried it in one of my projects and it was really cool, so that's just a difference of opinions, just because I like blue there's no reason to erase all green stuff!
Peace

If I posted a model of wife with a swimsuit and the color does not please you, I think twice before removing the swimsuit.
