Too many connections
Here we are about 20 actives peoples (more?) then i have often an error like this: "Too many connections [1040]" or a very slow refresh of the pages. How many people see the forum and do nothing? It is possible to have statistics about that? Or is it a low capacity of the forum? number of connections allowed?

Re: Too many connections
Thanks for the notification Marcel.
"Too many connections
HostGator has a much larger total maximum number of simultaneous MySQL connections any server can handle.
If the server has reached the limit, you will receive a Too many connections error.
In this case, the server needs to be investigated by our server administrators."
I have submitted a ticket for investigation.

Re: Too many connections
Are you seeing this error today? Has anyone else gotten this error either today or in the past at
this site?
I have tech support looking into it but I need more information.

Hey Steinie.
I am not seeing it today; I don't think I have seen it before.

Re: Too many connections
This reminds me of an old (vendor name not included for fear of lawsuit) problem where the database connection count on a web app went off the charts when users closed their browser window instead of navigating to a new page. For whatever reason the database connection did not close properly in that instance and a loop in the connection manager kept opening new ones.
I solved the problem by firing the vendor so I can't help much here.

I wonder if these connections could be related to spiders.

I did not see that message, but the server is very slow the last 2 days. Still now.

It is possible but spiders are usually very good at getting in and out of a database without being detected so they would close the connections properly.

Re: Too many connections
on jun 08 i had about ten time the message of error, then i stopped to use the forum after created this topic (with a lot of difficulty). Today it is less slow but not good and because it is the morning in france. Most of the time, the forum is slow at the end of the journey (maybe when usa begin to use the forum?). I don't know if other people from europe have the same problem with this hourly availability.Steinie wrote:Are you seeing this error today? Re: Too many connections
I haven't seen that message or similar. No unreasonable slowness either. If the problem happens when there are too many users then it would be short term and happen to everyone but Marcel seems to encounter it for long periods and it doesn't happen to everyone. That's just speculation and no help fixing it. If it is a technical problem then hopefully Hostgator will fix it.
If Hostgator (or cpanel or whatever) allows options for the mySQL database then the allowed number of simultaneous users could be increased or an InnoDB style DB could be used. Each brings its own problems though.

Re: Too many connections
Windows yesterday had 11 updates automatically being sent out. 31 megs of data being sent would certainly cause a network slowdown or make your computer appear slow. I saw slowness but not here. That is one possibility.
We are on a shared server here. If the Server gets heavy volume or there is an attack you would see a "Too many connections" error" That is what Marcel reported.
Our site can have 25 MySQL connections and if this is exceeded you would get a
"Max user connections" error. So the spiders were not the problem.
Marcel reported "too many connections" so I filed a ticket with the tech dept.

I think the database is corrupted. Two of my messages end up in the wrong thread.

Re: Too many connections
Wigand you deleted your post from the
"Poll: Do you use Workspace side?" thread. What thread was it suppose to be in?
You also state that two of them moved. However you only posted once. Where did you post the your second post?
Froo already stated that he deleted his own post.

It should have been an answer to Froo. But he deleted his post as you said. Therefore I was confused.Steinie wrote:Wigand you deleted your post from the

I wrote, that today I had the same error message too, about: too many connections.Steinie wrote: You also state that two of them moved. However you only posted once. Where did you post the your second post?

This was at the moment when the connection was very slow. Now it seems to be better again

Re: Too many connections
Work well for me today. i think it is only a problem of traffic. sometime good sometime bad. It is possible the server have other forum busy on the same hardware, then it reduce the possibility of some forum. maybe it depend of how many you pay to have a continuous quality.

BTW... sorry about my post deletion and the following confusion; I was a little slow on the trigger there.
