Scene Explorer - Curve Editor - Problem

Post by DesignDevil »

I have a question about the SE, exactly the curve editor.

I have a simple animation, just a cube moves along a path, 3 keyframes. The preset is spline interpolation. With the handles on each keyframe i can adjust the tension and the bias. So far so good - or maybe not good, because i don't understand the relationship between tension and bias or how caligari has implemented this into the curve editor.

Let's do a example for the middle keyframe: I put in a few values by hand (tension: 0; bias: -1), this results in a smooth curve. If i know just click the handle (no movement) the values are changed to tension: 0.014 and bias: -0.301.

If i click the handle again (also just click, no drag) the values are changed to tension 0.028 and bias: 0.200 (<- positive!)

The values are always a bit different, so difficult to repeat this action.

I also don't understand the relationship between the movement of the handles (left, right, up, down) and the values.

Who can explain this? Thanks in advice...DD

ts76_MS_Animation.pdf page 27 and 28 of the pdf has some info. it's part of the missing manuals found here:

Changing the orientation of a handle adjusts the bias value for the selected animation parameter - in other words, use handle direction to adjust the angle of the entry and exit trajectories for the selected keyframe.

Changing the length of the handle (by dragging the handle bar closer to or farther from the keyframe) controls the tension value for the selected parameter.
