Adobe cloud only ???
I dont know if you guys heard the latest ......Adobe Creative Suite (CS) will be subscription or cloud ONLY.... !!1

I guess it's one way to make it affordable for the masses, but still - yuck.

I have crummy ISP "Hughesnet" so online cloud ware isn't exactly a convinience so much as an aggravation.

Every day open source/freeware stuff looks better and better.

CS6 Master Suite will be available for a short while (June 17 I believe) and will still be supported but no new features. Personally, if I can get CS6 cheap I will but I am not going to jump on the cloud for anything. I appreciate that cloud is cheaper for the vendors and piracy will drop out of the sky and that it is great to turn your product into an annuity but... I don't really need more than I have and the direction they are heading in is already most of the business model for Blender which continues to evolve at an incredible pace.

Would I use cloud for anything... sure if I had a fantastic contract with the revenue to fund it but short of that.... nope.

$49.99 per month = $600 per year.
I use cs2 and it is enougth for me since 10 years ! 10 year of cloud = $6000 ! and just for Adobe. Imagine all thing on the cloud in several years (most of free app now but paid app after you will have no choose).
Rent for my hardware.
Rent for my OS.
Rent for my antivirus.
Rent for my software.
Rent for my data.
Rent for a better internet (because of all the things above).
Rent ...

"It is not a cloud. It is a storm." That's good wording. Works for what you meant and could also be a great line for a pro-cloud advertisement. "MS Office Super Cloud version 13. It's not a cloud. It's a storm!" Most change, good or bad, comes as a storm.

Cloud Good:
Piracy harder so better protection of companies/producers/creators property and better ability to get paid for software/services. Service, and possibly your data, available where ever you can get on the web. Software always at the latest version with latest updates. Security might be better than on your own computer.

Cloud Bad:
Must be online. Some companies may offer off line versions if there is demand but you can bet that will be expensive and restrictive (copies lead to piracy). When there is a security problem it is big: hacks shut down zillions of people's use of a program or steal their data. Although market forces, where they still operate, should bring prices down pricing doesn't look good so far. No or few options to choose older versions. Maybe you don't want your data sent through the web or stored remotely. What if the company goes out of business?

Criminals will find a way to do bad things but that applies to anything -- cloud or not.

I like V3rd3's point about using cloud stuff if it was for a business. The cloud might be good for some businesses but I don't think it will be that great for most individuals at first.

It time people, honest and not, will use their adaptation and innovation to turn cloud stuff to their advantage in ways we won't think of now. Just as it was the the web itself.

-for the record its always better to own than rent. This stack of cards will eventually fall. But it'll take a while.

Or find free and cheap ways to avoid at all costs. I.E. Blender/Gimp.
What I hate about all about this... Say I live in XxX location where the Internet sucks, I can't just say YAY cloud! There's no "adapting" cloudware, you're like a fish out of the water.

Basically you can't really play X game or use X software because of the limitations. Right now where I live, I've struggled to get "fibre optics" here for about 2 years and they still say... I'm stuck at the Engeneering phase of the program.

Currently I use "hughesnet" where the current "speed" is in the Kbps of say 90s-200s... And the TTMP status routinely falters for hours making any Internet activity impossible. I also, have an allowance of 700Mbs that gets refilled in 350 Mbs installments daily... I can't do much more than post stuff on forums (Facebook), and watch 2-3 videos a day. The "Ping" is horrible making any streaming communication such as online gaming impossible (I can't do multiplayer, and it really irks me when they make single player games online only).

From there I have 2 options....
Dial-up... But I miss calls and I get speeds much more than 9kbps... Ping is better though

I upgrade to Hughesnet gen 4 and get 20 gbs (700mbs a day) allowance per month. Marginally better speeds and all the same say issues....

Pardon my language but all this cloud stuff leaves me *#%£!
