Excellent work Moondog!

Looks really fine (/covet)

Great entries so far! Welcome Aboard Moondog, quite amazing the render speed! what you have? a Render farm?????

Ok guys! Jamesmc seems he is improving a lot his modeling skills and if he still submitting more entries he will is building something like "seti at home" so a Super Banana for JamesMC and his great motivation on SMC! Well done my friend.
:superbanana:

i want much more people on this SMC, it is simple, flexible and easy to achieve..

So i want to see at least 4 entries.. 4, no less.. or i'll shutdown the server! that's a good idea?

I'll try to make my entry today at night..

Prodigy:
Thanks for the welcome. Ah, about the render speed, I used my GPU to render instead of my CPU, so it is roughly 240x faster. Original render time was around 15-20m with the CPU, GPU was literally 5s.

I might addon to my scene considering I still have 1hr13m remaining in modeling time. :P

Interesting moondog, which software did you use to render using your gpu??

It was rendered in Truespace 7.6, model side...I basically cheated in a way. I used purely DX shaders for the materials and lights, so all the rendering processes went through the GPU as if it was rendering real-time game art. When I hit render all it really did was save the scene to an image at a specified resolution. I could literally import this scene into a DX engine and it would look the same as the final image I submitted. :)

Though I've been reading articles on new GPU rendering softwares being developed that can be used with any scene setups. ILM actually created one in order to create the very awesome fire effects in Harry Potter HBP.

Edit(6th time :P): My original post has the scene file for download if you want to check it out.

Great image Moondog! All entries are looking good.

I see how you can create a good DX render to the screen on model side but when you click render it either uses the Lightworks or Virtualight renderers. Obviously, you got the results you expected, the DX screen image sent to a file, so I'm missing something about how that happened.

Hmm...I might be mistaken then. I used a shader to calculate the light and shadow information, so I assumed it was done through the GPU...makes sense considering it's done this way originally. When I originally set the scene up with native lights, that's when it took forever. I think I'll look into this a little bit more.

I need to stop assuming...cause you know what they say. :P

"Texture baking" is not something I'm familiar with but the ability is there and I hear that it makes things faster for renders. I guess that is what it is for. Workspace has an ability to write its DX realtime renders to file. Great for animations. Regardless of the details it is a good image.
