I am lucky today.

Post by marcel »

I just bought my new computer. :)

CPU i7 3770k@3.5 ghz
16 gigabytes ram
GTX 680 overclocked @ 1267 mhz
128 Gig SSD
Hard drive 2 TB

All is well cooled and extremely quiet (I'm very surprised about the silence).

My first test was of course to compare the speed of rendering:
A complex scene with hdri on modelside:
-my old core E6600: 24 minutes.
-my new core: 4 minutes and 45 seconds.
This gives to me a speed more than 5 times.
Lightwork engine uses 8 threads very well. Vray seem to work well too.

For now TS works well on win 7 64 bit pro.

Congrats!

To get your TGA thumbnail previews back (and a long list of other image file types) you can try here: http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/

It's like the old TGAThumb free version, only this one isn't free.
Welcome back to the 21st Century!

Congrats Marcel!
Sounds like a monster computer capable of doing large things.

I know what you mean about quiet running. When I upgraded my old PC, I had to lean down to hear the new computer running - thought it was broken. heh

Probably using heatsinks instead of fans.
Another benefit is no dirt being sucked in.
Good luck with it Marcel!

Your pictures are great due to your creativity, imagination, knowledge, etc. but it helps to have good tools to work with. Can't wait to see what you do with this.

the Core 7 3770k looks like a great chip. What I like about the Core 7 3770k chip it only generates 77 Watts. That means you can use less cooling and a smaller power supply.

My C drive has 160 gb of data with 28 gb free. How do you fit everything on 120 SSD?

I do recommend getting a second 2 tb drive and mirroring it with our other hard drive. That way your data is still safe. Your work is very precious.

Haha, yes. I myself have a 1.5 TB external HD and a 2 TB external HD for the very same purpose, can't be to safe. Three backups would be overdoing it a little so that's where I stopped.

heh well, I'm still goin on a wing and a prayer with my old , mmm... Athlon XP or whatever it is. Single Shooter CPU, AGP 4x video card, etc. I think .. man! I think there's ... what, 1 GB? I don't even know anymore. One computer I tried to revive, could not be saved so I just took out the parts I may be able to use later: video card (questionable), memory (questionable), sound card, dvd burners. :D

Yeah Marcel's PC sounds very sweet.
The one I am using is the one that hosted FrooServe before. It still runs for now; hope it will continue.
