It makes me think of a Platte oil rig. why stairs underwater? just swim. Or maybe it is an old construction before the big flood :) For the background use an image that we can see more the horizon with clouds seem more distant. That help to have a good environment to finish a scene.
Just a trick: if you want to mix a little the sea and the sky at the horizon, you can use a gradient alpha mask for the plane (water) that disappear a little (not 100%) like a mist. Especially when there are a lot of clouds. You can do that and keep your style (it is the most important) without problem. Here is an example from an old movie i did:

Looks challenging. The water will make the scene tough to do. Transparency, reflection, color, cloudiness of the water all carefully balanced to show the temple but also look like water and give an impression of depth. Not easy.

I really like that last one but the temple is a bit hard to see now, because of the background-light, I doubt that anyone will notice if it wasn't for the title. :geek:
Also I think the cliffs to the left attract a bit to much attention.

You know what I think is most interesting, that every WIP you posted has a different color/theme for the sky and scenery, makes every WIP a joy to look at :)

This is my favorite by far. The only suggestion I would have
would be to tighten up the texture on the temple or put your
signature on this very nice rendering.

Oh yes, this is excellent. Very good color balance, the temple is very visible now and the cliffs aren't taking up that much space anymore.

Very nice work :)

This one is good but I like the previous blue one better. The temple texture looks too rough and too uniform. Give different areas different looks. Maybe the underwater part would have a different texture with barnacles or coral or different weathering.

It's a bit confusing now, to many distorted reflections. The orange sky looks nice though :)

I prefer the one with the bluish tint to the sky but I guess it depends on the emotion you are trying to evoke. For me, the closer the tint of the sky to the temple the more it gives a feeling of "unity" between man and nature and a feeling of loneliness and isolation.

The starker the contrast between the sky and the temple the more it separates them as two disparate objects in the scene with no "unity" between the two of them, if that makes sense.

Bottom line is that I like it. Would also suggest maybe zooming in a little bit. Seems a shame to waste the modeling and texturing on something so far away.

Nice work!!!

I like this one best. I like these colors the best. It has touch of the surreal. The clouds are great! Powerful looking and simultaneously alien and familiar. Cool spiral columns. Water murkiness looks about right.

Not much that I'd change. I think you should shrink the baby a little and change his proportions so it is not so obvious he is a baby. That would produce a mysterious creature. The stairs might need some support under them. There is a reflection or texture under the marble wall just left of the rightmost column. It looks like text. If that wasn't intentional then I'd change it.

Consider making another alternate picture with the temple between the large vertical rocks.

sorry for saying this: its wrong. You will never see thru water from this angel. You should focus on whats left above water and use the reflections. Or make some underwater scene. Making both in one image will not work.

think about it.

Yes it does if you render the vision of both over and under water simultaniosly.... could be worth a try..

For realism, yes you would probably see only reflections of the clouds. For art, the above and below view is has now is interesting and adds to the surreal look. A compromise would be to show the temple viewed more from above. Then the angle would be realistic for seeing both above and below the surface. I like the artsy look it has now.

If you are trying for complete realism then the water needs refraction so the objects "bend" at the surface.

raymans idea could work well, althought it looks like a pure camera shot or that the temple (car in his case) is in an aquarium .) but it looks good.

about realism and surealism: Ok surealism si nce, i love it. But surealism is something above realism. So it has to look like real with something added. Trying to do what is Ranger trying to do will not look good nor natural. It will just look wierd, lame, unnatural. Seeing it from above will not be a nice angle or you would have to model more than small temple. Surealism is not about making thinks look unnatural and without physics, not oposite of reality.

if you would like to add some surrealism, make it at night and add one more moon, or whatever (some monter, some magical particles, i dont know), but still it needs to look like real - something that could exist in real with fantasy.

try to make it: a) abovewater (partly) or b) make a shot under water. Both have potencial to look very interesting.
