But would a HuDog or a Dogman still hike their legs on trees?

After many hours studying James drawing, I do NOT see a dog.
What I DO see I cannot discuss here because of the young innocent ears at U3DA.
I will spend many more hours studying James sketch after this post...
For some reason this 3D Cartoon Character Design Challenge beckons me...I"M IN!!!!!
p.s. I really like "Mr. Brushy", a good first entry!
p.p.s. James can name his "Mrs. Bushy"

I found that if you examine the drawing using the template below, one can really get the "creative juices" juices flowing.

since reading Steinie comment I now no longer see fine art
Is there some strange stereo 3D trickery or just the right amount of drugs + booze + cabin fever?
the template doesn't help at all in fact it makes it oh so more real man!

I'm in on this one!
10 days.. I have just the character to work on! I'm starting a live space and WIP soon!

we can push it back if we have sufficient entry I just make that long due to the nature of U3DA members who sometimes busy or just plain lazy to join. and also to give them time to finish their entry... last challenge many did not finish their entry.
if we have sufficient entry we can call it quits at july 15, 2012

Did my usual quickie.
(that's what she said)
Flattened the pic a bit for just the comments section.
The 'spongerRobert' character came out kind of crappy no matter how many times I re-rendered, so here is the non-post work raw render included.
No WIP, just did it back to back, wham-bam-thank you ma'am
It's entered.

Funny you should mention that, I drew it from memory after eating a baked potato.

Indeed! Very very very cool! Love it! The detail, the form, the character. I would love if you could finish it! Maybe retopo and continue the body as poly's elsewhere! Looks great!

I think it needs hands capable of holding a beer mug, a stringed instrument or a weapon. Such a sosphiticated chap needs versatility.

I am really busy with work at the moment, being in the twilight zone of finishing preproduction to full on production, so will have to post pone my Character. I've noticed there are more than enough entries for a good vote anyway!!

Just for grins, I made this cartoon today for a friend in a game. His nickname is "hotdog" so yeah, I did.
He has been hunting unicorns and not getting any special prizes, so I was sort of 'jabbing' him about that. Even gave him a purple unicorn "bird dog" buddy. The jar of mustard is comic relief "that he can't cut the mustard."
All in good fun. heh

I have been busy with work and away from the forum for a little while.
After seeing this contest I am so interested in participating.
I would how ever like to take my design to a new level.
What I would like to do is to take a picture of one of the members here and then design a 3D cartoon character from it.
So if there are any out there that are willing to send me a head shot and a full body shot I will be willing to have some fun.
Send me a PM and I will gladly send you my private email address to send the pictures to.
Look forward to hearing from you all.

I wait until the entry date has passed everywhere in the world and then start the poll.
Glad you got in Dragneye and good work!
Thanks trueBlue (I didn't know you could alter a poll). You should PM Darkscythe about the change. Why did some images not show (I could see them all) and what is the correct way to link to an image so is shows for everyone?

They did not show for me until I removed: &mode=view from the end of the original link.
The way I did it was:
Right click select Copy Shortcut on the image and paste it into the thread. Remove the part mentioned above. then highlight the link and select the Img button in the Post Editor.

Thanks trueBlue.
I wonder where/what time zone DarkScythe is in?
For the record, I don't remember, do we normally mention a time zone, or just 'the end of the day' for everyone?
NOTE: Steinie's octopus entry has a better picture in the thread. You all should use that one to judge.

Seppgirty, if he IS on the juice, then he's been overdoing it for years!
So, is this challenge over? I think technically there's still time for people to vote.
It's Darkscythe's show. I just want to play fair.

Alrighty then.
Thank you all.
Well, I must say; there were some very cool and original ideas in this one. You folks did a great job! It was really hard to pick just one. That's a good thing.
Question: I noticed you all basically combined the two challenges. Was that a temporary measure? ANd, do I have to set the next one for two months or one? Please reply so I can get the next one rolling tonight or in the morning.

Congratulations Dragneye! Your owl teacher is good!
All the entries were exceptional this time. It was hard to pick one to vote for.
The MMC and SMC were stopped and the U3DA Challenge started as a remedy for low participation in the former challenges. The idea was increase participation by having all the participants in one challenge. The new challenge also allows for more variety since the winner makes the rules including the nature of the challenge. MMC, SMC, animaton, texturing ... whatever you think of. The duration is set by the winner. So, the challenge winner can pretty much do what he wants. Best to avoid really long durations and I noticed in the old challenges that participation was low with complex themes.
Looks like the U3DA Challenge is not temporary.
James. Cartoon transportation. Since HearO, Block Man, and Baby Hulk lack super speed or flying they would travel in taxis!
