MMC MAY 2011_

Post by Dragneye »

The WIPping begins...
Started with a quick sketch to flesh out a basic shape. Then went into zbrush. Sometimes I make a basic shape in TS first, but this time just added a circle mesh, stretched it a bit for general shape, and using the Clay, Inflate, and Move brushes, I end up with this...

Only then do I worry about creating a workable, efficient mesh using 'Edit Topology' ; the opposite of the way we're used to making a model. That's the beauty of zbrush. You can go right into creating, rather than modeling, working out the details later.
So, add a zsphere, then select the mesh to retopoligize.
I put on Symmetry because it forces the centerline to be accurate.

I also like to retopo only half of the model cuz zbrush retopo is see-thru, making it hard to click on the correct lines (lower part of the model in this pic). Then I turn off Symmetry and start making the mesh. I create lines that define the curves i want and Then connect them (make them into polygons) to avoid 5 point stars (more than 4 edges that meet at a point) as much as I can. I'm only worrying about edge flow rather than perfect point placement. I end up with this...

Ooook... came on to show the latest pic and tell you all that I ran out of time, so this is the best I got in 4 hrs work. Ummm, that's for the SMC. lolol.... Oh dopey me (giggles with a dumb smile on his face)
Well, here's the pic, and now I have time to put in the details. (walks away shaking his head. "Geez man; I need sleep" )

Thanx folks.
Been way too stressed lately. This whole time I was doing this thinking I had a 4 hr time limit. And at least an hour and a half was wasted just visualizing the concept (something to be said for "WOrk out as much of the design and details as you can in the sketching/pre-viz stage, Before you start modeling anything").
Breech, bat bike huh? Hmm. Actually had that conversation recently abt how it's Incredibly hard nowadays to create a truly original design; just about all the basics have been done. So, I'm sure this also will look like something out there already. But, we do what we can right?

Dragneye, I like your bike dude!

Hey your suppose to come here to loose stress not create it!!!
We're probably all genetically related to the first Bohemian on earth who happened to be an Artist.
He/she would kill wooly mammoths during the day and spray their hands with dung-dung beetle juice on the cave walls at night. That is why we are moody artist. Have you ever tried to sleep at night with dung-dung beetle juice on your hands and smelling like a wooly mammoth?...

Hey if you want to talk about things just email me. I'm always here for you guys/gals. :bananacheers:

I also thought of this as a SMC entry. I thought it was a life form and that you were very creative (which you are) that it was a creature with rotating parts or a living metal-machine. Then I noted the MMC in the thread title.

lolol ... yeah; Things have gotten quite topsy turvy for me in general lately. Maybe I should have come up with a name for this guy from the beginning; would've helped me remember.
OH! Hey, maybe I should turn the whole model upside down and .... wait; that would make it a forth revision. - On second thought, I'll leave what I have.

SO... I christen thee... the BDP Speeder!
And without further adew (yeah I know, but I forgot how to spell it)... I present to you, the.... (Pssst, get the picture, get the picture ya rummy. Oh yeah; We um... we break for station identification. brb
.....
Ta Daaaaa!

PS: Steinie... you da man! Thanx duuude.
Finis - the problem began when I started thinking abt entering the SMC cuz I Like the subject (been wanting to do another creature). I decided on this because it afforded me more time. - Now look at me; chasing my tail to finish :)
PSS: changed tactics and so far this is modeled only in TS, using another technique.
