MAGIC - my short animation WIP for the U3DA contest

Post by DesignDevil »

Hi folks. For the first animation contest i plan to create a short movie with the name "Magic". Here is the WIP thread for this.

I startet to create a complete new Rig for my DesignDevil character. Especialy the hand and facial rig was bad so i decided to create a new one from scratch. After a few test's i'm very happy with it (so far).

The next step was to write & define the story and after that to scribble it as thumbs for a storyboard on paper. I'm not so good in drawing but it helps to "hold" the idea fixed in images.

Now it was time to create all needed props (nearly 5 day's for this) and set it up to a scene to define the lights & cam position (again 1 day). Here is a sample image:
magic - light & stage setup.jpg
I scanned the storyboard thumbs and set it into a timeline so that a "Animatic" was created which helps to make the sound and soundfx for the animation. (3 days for this)

And, here it is:

The next step is now to create a layout animation (setting the key poses) ...

Here we go ...

let me say at first: thanks for all your reply's. Now i come to the next step the "Layout". Here i setup all key poses like in the animatic but right now with the character and dummy objects for the props. These poses are not yet final. It is just to give a feeling for the timeline - what's happen on which frame. Here is the video:

If you count the time - i needed 2 days for this (animation needs a lot of time).

The next step on the process is to blocking out these key poses. This means to define the movement more precisly from one key pose to the next. You could say i insert more poses. I think i will need 3 or 4 day's for this - let me see how much time i have per day.

Just as a information 1 day means for me 5 to 6 hours permanently work on the project.

You born to do it men! I even couldn't do the layout so the animation is impossible, also the animation looks really funny! Do you have a great way on doing things, simple but cool!

Keep the good work, I just can't wait to see it! :worship:
