I'm looking for steel profiles, angle iron, square tube etc.

Post by Galane »

I thought I'd found the perfect thing in some DWG blocks of end views of various structural steel types but after copying out one example I found it was just a bunch of disconnected line segments glued together. :( So don't download anything from cadcorner.ca and expect it to be usable in trueSpace.

Anyone have a shape and (USA) dimension accurate steel shape library for tS, or even a collection of 2D CAD files in a format tS can import, which are solid shapes tS can extrude?

I'm designing a CNC plasma cutter table, figured it'd be easy to model in tS - if I can find the shapes for the steel.

I have never seen any polygon steel profiles. I ran into that issue many years ago. If you have a steel catalogue just make what you need from the dimensions its the easiest. If you have profiles imported Clinton's nurbs curve joining plugin might work to make it one curve to extrude.

Sounds like a job for a tS community project to build an imperial and metric steel profiles library. There are plugins and other programs to generate any such profile as needed for AutoCAD, how about one for tS?

Here is the good news.... there is a full working test copy of Moi3d that you can download and it works for one month.....
It should be enough time to get all of your profiles out.......
http://moi3d.com/download.htm"
Its a nurbs modeler and its very easy to use and has an exceptionaly good obj exporter....... the exporter is better
and newer then Rhino´s.....
But dont download the save disabled version of the modeler that you can also get that works infinitly....
