Objects Dilemma
I never used a object that isn't mine, just played with few but never used to complete a scene or a render...
I don't know if you feel it to, but when I pick a object that I have not done, I feel a little of guilt because I could do it too or learn how to do, also I'm learning how to do things and it's better do it by myself instead get it ready for use. So because of that I never used a object that I haven't done. Maybe a fool feeling...

Re: Objects Dilemma
well if it's free there's nothing wrong with using it.
It's good if you want to fill out a scene, or just want to
try a model in a scene, to see how it will 'fit' in the scene.
Free and for sale objects can really come in handy when you are on a tight deadline
to get the job done.
This type of object can probably be called a 'stock object', much like you can get
free/for pay 'stock footage' for video productions. Same goes for 'stock audio' for
your animations. I hope you don't feel like you have to learn the guitar in order
to add a cool solo to an animation!
I wouldn't feel guilty about it. Use em for reference, for study.

Re: Objects Dilemma
Maybe I'm stupid
Or I'm too much pride that I need to say: Hey, I did every single object in the scene!
Also I want to buy a digital sound recorder to rec some sounds for my animation...
Pick my Photographic Camera and found some texture...
But of course I use free sounds and textures, maybe need to get accustomed in do it with objects. ^^

I only use my own objects as well.... From 1987s (VideoScape) to
today.... never have... It would feel kinda like cheating...... if I did...

Re: Objects Dilemma
well what about primitives ?
I do all of my work from scratch too except for meshes of humans and animals.
But I make morphs from those shapes and try to give them an individuality.
Plus I use trees and plants. But I also make my own. same as with creatures if I need something totally different....
When I test things or just explain something to someone else i also use stock......but my own too !

Re: Objects Dilemma
Exactly, I feel that I'm cheating, so because of that I don't do it... Maybe if I'm in a deadline project I should use... but no when everything is fine and I just want to finish before.Jimmer wrote:I only use my own objects as well.... From 1987s (VideoScape) to

Thanks Peter too, maybe morph is a good alternative!

Re: Objects Dilemma
I use clipart only for things who have no importance and to win time, not to show something as a creation. Also clipart can be useful for a newbie to experiment. When I do creation I prefer to do my model because it is a pleasure. Time have no importance when I have pleasure to do. Professional world is more cruel: I don't like peoples who show their work as the creator of a thing they have not really do. They seek to be recognized and give importance, not for what they are. They are not honest with themselves. The sad thing is when they believe is the reality. This is the problem of modern society (need to have million of friends even if i have to buy them, need not to be really the best but to show it , etc...). I prefer to do thing for myself than showing false creation to one million people. If I did not enjoy doing things myself, I change my job. Most people understand that management only at the end of their life.
Some people never understand that.

Re: Objects Dilemma
ok, time for me to drop in to this thread, lol.
As you know I posted a thread here in the Shared Space section about almost 20 thousand free 3D models we can all use in our projects.
Notice that I didn't post that in the General forum discussion area. The reason was that when I truly focus on producing commercial or professional quality "art" from 3D work, I *never* use anyone else's models in any part of the scene, I create everything from scratch, even the atmosphere and grass and details like that. I suppose all of us do when we are genuinely striving for a unique art creation, but I view shared space scene creation as a lower form of "3D Art" in several ways, so I don't hold shared space scene creation to the same standards at all.
And then there are the scenes I have generated here using Poser and Daz Studio and Vue de'Esprit, which again I hold to a lower standard than genuine "3D Art" I could create. These tools were originally designed for a market of people who have little or no prior experience in creating models or scenes using any actual 3D editing software. And many of us, probably the vast majority, started out in 3D using exactly such tools as Poser... tools which seemed easy and introductory to the world of 3D scene creation.
As we speak probably 80 percent of the people worldwide who create 3D scenes are not "professional" editors of 3D using high-end editing programs, they are hobbyists, dabblers, as many of us once were. As such, I view the inclusion of such images generated in these lower end scene creation programs to be somewhat important as a presence in this particular forum. The reason being that many potential forum members are often intimidated by the great skills present in a forum such as this one, when again many are merely Poser or Daz or Vue "hobbyists and dabblers." To make them feel welcome here, as I believe we should, I have endeavored to use those programs intentionally here. All those programs have a vast array of existing models used in them as a rule rather than the exception to the rule.
So to my mind, at least, it is a good thing "Community-wise" to not discourage the use of including models from other sources in one's general renders here, that could also cause those who visit here (but have not yet joined the membership because they feel their skills are inadequate) to feel they have nothing substantial yet to contribute here. When in fact, their Membership here and activity here in the form of communication, are the most vital reasons they should join us all, rather than to demonstrate the proficiency of their related skills.
Make sense? lol

Very well said! I agree!marcel wrote:... Most people understand that management only at the end of their life.

I have a few "levels" of seriousness I attach to my "art," if I am producing something I genuinely care about it will all be entirely my work in every respect possible.
If I am making something just for fun, I could care less whether it is really valued by those I am having fun with by producing it.
If I am making something commercial, I create it all from scratch before it is submitted, but I may, for instance, on a deadline in an online environment, where I am walking through the scene in realtime with a prospective investor, show them models instantly brought in to demonstrate potentials of using a specific space a certain way. In such cases those are not the final work I would submit, only prototypes of work I could create to adapt the space to the needs of a particular investor. Similar to the way one shops in a furniture store, the lighting and fake fruit are generally not included in the sale of the sofa! hehehe

Of course age brings wise and generally that's positive, and you open your knowledge range you start to see everything clear, even if a master teach you, you need to live to know how to live, the only problem is that you normally know exactly how to live when you are old and near to die.

Re: Objects Dilemma
There is no problem to use these models. The real creation is what we do with these objects. They can helps we to test or try a render. That is a good thing. We just need to be honest when we show what we are doing. When we use poser, we know it is not our model but texture, animation, render is our creation. When we use trueSpace, we know we have not created the tool we use. A creation is never entirely personal. We are all affected by many things. Just think of the part that we did. This is the part that must be developed.3dvisuals dude wrote:As you know I posted a thread here in the Shared Space section about almost 20 thousand free 3D models we can all use in our projects.

Well I'm not *THAT* old yet! Hahahaha!!! But sure, that makes sense!
In any learning experience we all start out focusing on what we first see, and as we progress with our determination we see more and focus on additional things, until eventually we arrive at what the Germans call a "gestalt," an awareness which comes of the "greater picture," the "wholeness" or "meaning" or "relevance" of a complexity which in the final analysis is greater than the mere sum of it's parts.
Such is life and learning.

Re: Objects Dilemma
I love doing originals but also love the challenge of combining many works into a project if it calls for it. The great part of originals besides the satisfaction of creating it is one has more ownership over it. Still combinning many great works together is very satisfying plus one doesn't always have to invent the wheel each time one goes forward. I also love to give credit to the indivduals who shared their work so that we all can use it. Releasing something for free when you may have spent literally hundreds of hours on it and see other folks enjoy it is a wonderful thing so don't feel too bad if you find something rather awesome and you can use it and really make it shine as long as author wants it to be used freely. Give the original creator credit and he/she will absolutely love it. Shared space is not for stingy people
but also important what is shared is not stollen from someone elses work who did not authorized it publication. Really 3d is an art form and can be very personal with each wanting to go about it their own way.
In the future I hope to see shared space objects or objects in general have ways to lock them from tampering, author, date of creation etc.. available including scene data. This may not occur in trueSpace unless the trueSpace project reinitiates for another edition. Microsoft is not dumb, if Shared Space becomes relevant or more popular it may well start more developement.

I also agree with your earlier assessment, where you said:
I have seen a lot of that in my life too, and in the business world translated into genuine fraud.I don't like peoples who show their work as the creator of a thing they have not really do. They seek to be recognized and give importance, not for what they are. They are not honest with themselves. The sad thing is when they believe is the reality. This is the problem of modern society
It is sad, I agree.
Nevertheless, frauds have always been among mankind, but the more they thrive in a careless society, the more evident it is when a truly unique artists emerges in such an environment, they "stand out like a sore thumb" as it is often said, lol.
Genuine talent is not suppressible, as Confucious once said:
The same is true of a genuine Artist... their talents are sublime, and recognized worldwide by those with the eyes to make such distinctions. The superior man abides in his room. If his words are well spoken, he meets with assent at a distance of more than a thousand miles. How much more then from nearby! If the superior man abides in his room and his words are not well spoken, he meets with contradiction at a distance of more than a thousand miles. How much more then from nearby!

On the subject of Author/Artist scene and object control in shared spaces, I have something I discovered in the Cali forum which may end that worry for us all very soon, a nugget buried in one of Wigand's posts.

I was just saying the same thing here the other day, lol, we have it backwards... we should all start out wise and old and grow young together!marcel wrote:Leon: "the only problem is that you normally know exactly how to live when you are old and near to die."
