CopyExPlus

Post by Gwydion »

In no way connected with the Original Copy Ex....except I am trying to make it better ;)

Use CopyExPlus for things like stair creation, set your offsets and save them for reuse, such as creating the stair's base then later its bannister.

Or copy lights in a row for use with streetlights or similar features.

Position Rotation and Size locks, X/Y/Z axis locks, boolean union or grouping of
copies made, save and load feature.

Right now there are 12 save/loads, I want to make it dynamic or use "save sets" so you can save sets according to projects

Future versions I hope to impelment a visual cue to show where objects will be placed before confirmation.

Also there is a button to let you say "I Want my copies to span over a certain distance" as opposed to each copy being a certain distance out.
For instance, instead of 10 copies being placed 1 X out from each other, you could ask the program to place 10 copies over the length of 23 X and it will calculate the distances for you.

Works with rotation and size also, Rotate copies of a single object around a number of degrees, or use the toggle to say 360 degrees 7 objects and GO!
Stating 23 X-axis in size allows you too make your copies go from current size up to the 23 X-axis declared

Looking for feedback of usefulness and any features others may wish to see, Let me know.

Also looking to make or remake any useful tools we may need for 6.6, I will release this tool when its DONE, right now I have 3 beta testers and am glad too invite more on to test the project.

Right now it does crash if you over do the boolean union (as truespace does anyways) its not the tool its the program sadly, but I am trying to find a work around for that.

Also it won't automatically convert your nurbs or meta objects, they need to be mesh's to be unioned, but I could put in an auto convert command there I think.

I am still working on the City Maker project, to auto generate buildings and content, this is inteded as a 3d setting or game creation tool as opposed to creating abstract cities, but I do want and will make it create cities as well with options for exports. That will be a while in coming.

Anyhow thanks!!!

How do we get a copy of this to try out? One thing...can it do grass repilcation? For example you could define an area and tell it how many you want in that area and is put them there?

Hi rjeff, there exists a plugin for that. His name is SCATTER - try it out. You will find it on my website.
I still use TrueSpace 6.6

Scatter's interface is rather complicated and this may explain why this great plugin is not part of everyone's toolset.

Now that Caligari Forums are gone, perhaps we should write a Scatter tutorial on tSCommunity forum... or invite Remnar :) . Did he registered here ? I don't see him on the members list.

as a straight answer right now CopyExPlus cannot, and Soon It Can.... (you say HUH?)

Basically I made this tool at first for Emmanuel, he is my prime tester and the person I am aiming to please, why? Because he gave me a good challenge and I like his personality :)

Right now CopyExplus copies in 1 directional ways, it can copy along any axis but right now just one line or set of things at a time, its about...10 minutes for me to say

Here is an area, copy 1 object over it, and about another 10 minutes to make it "Jitter" in other words vary the copies by a small amount.

So in short right now it doesn't do area type effects but would be super easy to add to CopyExPlus
without ruining the concept of a copy tool at all, nor would it kill the interface as I could set it to a different tab.

THAT is why this post, I am wanting to make YOUR PLUGINS, one day sure I hope I will make money doing it, but I don't hold my breath, perhaps you will see me one day in person and buy me a meal :) but if I can make a small amount here and there thats neat too :).....THE point is ...I want people to USE these tools and like them, so I find out what they want :P So...tell me what you like/dislike and want.

It does indeed look like scatter does what you wish already, but thats where I always like to challenge myself
A clean easy to use tool that is as powerful as possible, I will probably add scatter power just
because I can do it so easily, and still not mess up the program, and keep a Pure Simple CopyExPlus for those who don't need all the extra :P

No problem v3rd3, anyone who is interested in contributing ideas, graphics for the ui etc may contact me at
words_of_kindness@yahoo.com.

I have the base design down for the person I made this for originally and I can now go in any direction I like with it, so I hope to make a tool many people will enjoy.

later :)
