All done in Bryce. Still needs some texture work on the foreground terrain. Twenty minutes rendering with True Ambience (GI), sky as IBL, and sun. There will be some rocks in and around the roots. I couldn't use displacement mapping on the roots because Bryce would crash.
Someone beat me and win this one. I want to see more people running the challenges. Come on you all. You can get an entry ready. Think of it as a speed modelling challenge.

Great concept!! The fallen tree and all! But.. I don't see a knife, nor a torus.. leaves yeah, pine leaves.. but not those things! =P I'm still working on concepts, but I think I have an idea.

Oops! Forgot about those! Hmm, this won't be easy. Torus, knife, ... hmm. Pines and birch trees for leaves. Maybe add a little grass. Could have an old rusty knife and torus shape from old equipment like a cavalry guy's stuff or a mountain man. Yeah! That works. Then the tree becomes symbolic and means that the owner of the stuff died here. The fallen tree represents the fallen soldier, explorer, or whoever the stuff belonged to.

Here is an old bit and knife. The bit, from a horses gear, has two tori, and the birch trees have leaves. Bit and knife modeled in TS 7.6 model side. Render in Bryce.
It needs more complicated roots and more rocks and some dirt in the roots but not enough time.
You all get your entries in. Good ones.
