That is a shame for sure. I'd rather see Saul muted for a while than see you leave. You will be missed, by me at least.

Re: Goodbye
Hello all
Marcel is praised for his work by everybody in this forum, one person criticises and he's off. Why does he care? Getting upset by this suggests to me he is only after the kudos.
As i have said before, his technical mastery is fantastic, my beef is with some of his subject matter and the lack of logic in his imagery.
I have tried to engage in discussion about this. Marcel has always refused to participate, maybe because of his lack of English or my lack of French.More likely it's because he does not take his subject matter seriously.
This is a small forum and Marcel stands out as one of the more profficient members. If he has truly gone and i hope he hasn't, he should pray for a place that is as sympathetic as this one.
Here he is a big fish in a small pond, he will get a lot harder time than i have given him elsewhere!
Ps Having read through this i am thinking that perhaps it is i who should leave rather than Marcel. My expectations are unreasonably high.
I have written to Marcel telling him this.
Farewell to all, go well and GET SERIOUS!

Yes, the internet is a hard place.. but some tact can really go a long way. Praise, then your critique, then recap the praise - really helps the other person digest it a bit better. The same method of critiquing is necessary and valid in real-life as much as it is needed online.
Also, if you really want to critique, suggesting alternatives or "how" to make something better would probably be more appreciated than just pointing out that something is "bad" or "wrong" - which I know is very typical of art critiques - but not necessarily constructive.
Just my opinion. This forum is a cool positive place, and I prefer it over many others of which I am a part of - I'd like it that way.

I agree with Draise that you (people in general) could point out the good with the bad. Also know that if you post your work online you will get positive and negative feedback and must deal with both.
This is a great little community and i hope neither of you leave.

Re: Goodbye
leaving is so simple.... but it doesnt solve anything.....after some time you
will find yourself running away all the time.
Even if one day you run into a REAL troll then you will be feeding him by leaving..
in the end its the purpose of some people to scare away others.....
in the discussion in the other thread I didnt like the tone not the subject matter.....
you can always critizise someone for the purpose of his artwork.. that is something
very subjective.... sometimes something you do doesnt even have to be intended to be artistic.... it still can be regarded well made....
Many of the things that I posted in the past werent even intended to be artwork..
sometimes they just followed the theme of a contest or were just lessons in other forums
that I followed.......
Yes sometimes the net has become a very unpleasent place to be....
I have spent less and less time online and more and more time outside shooting 2d work
lately... but I an also aware that not everything I do is highly respected by others all the
time.... somtimes I'm also happy about some words of others that dont patt me on the back
still I always want to see the discussions pass in a civilised way...even better in afriendly
way.......
I hope Marcel this isnt your last word because... I see no reason for you to leave....being bood by ONE person ...isnt anything that I would see as relevant.....hey he could have
advertised for viagra... would you have left for something as irrelevant?

Having an opinion and expressing it is fine but how you express it is the difference between criticism and insult.
Effective criticism is the result of a careful effort to communicate a point. Insult is just opening your mouth and spewing with little thought.
@Saul I have yet to see anything you might call criticism from you that would warrant serious consideration. Your commentary is just that ... commentary... random babbling without substance. Why Marcel feels compelled to pay any attention to your drivel is beyond me. You appear to be little more than a petulant child jealous of others talent.
Put up your work to validate your skills and I might listen to what you have to say about my skills.
Rant about my choice of subject matter and how I present it and I guarantee you I will ignore it. An opinion for the sake of having one deserves an audience of one.

Dragn bites (or fire if you prefer)
Old phrase: Opinions are like a**holes; everybody has one.
Everyone does the best they can. This place is about showing/sharing, but also learning with the help of others.
@ Marcel - too bad for YOU that you like when someone says something nice about your work, but cry when they say something negative about it. Why don't you try and post some of this 'ok' stuff you are sharing here, on CGsociety or some other website and see how 'nice' they will be to you there. (btw: the bot video you shared here a while back was very good).
I have also noticed that you haven't even tried to enter one of our contests lately, if nothing else, as a friendly supporter of this website.
From what I understand, you are not a child but some professional in some field, so.... stop acting like a pouting child.
@ Saul - as for you, I have no idea what your age is, but I will assume I am talking to an adult....
You DO understand that art is a personal effort and most of it takes many hours to create so showing a little appreciation for that fact at least is a good idea, for community..... Right?
And where is Your work? Your participation on here? Criticizing others is easy but sharing your work and being strong enough to have it criticized a bit scary?
If you are willing to do one (criticize) about another's art, then be man enough to do the other (be criticized).
We are here to share, learn, laugh, and feel united as 'artists'. It takes a lot to create art and it always puts a smile on my face when I meet someone who says I like to draw, or do 3D, or music, or just create stuff. In my mind, it elevates them in my scale of judging an individual for it takes something more than the average person to be that 'artist', exposing our internal, if you will.
As a final word, its bad enough that we have so few people sharing much of anything on here nowadays. Heck, for the contests the most we muster is maybe 7 or 8 votes on a regular basis.
There's a great bunch of guys here.
Add to that... don't make it less.

You don't want to leave, your a very talented guy, geez I wish I could achieve the same quality as you do
I've been in the same situation a few years ago, I just went quiet to be honest and my stalker went away as far as I know, I don't really care, it amused me that he was very vocal but posted absolutely nothing artwork wise of his own
What's the worse that can happen? All they can do is print text on a forum, like others have said ignore it and do what you enjoy, art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder

As i already received my going away presents (you ain't getting them back) i thought i, too, would return from the dead.Steinie wrote: I just bought you a going away card, a gold watch, and a lap dance with Sofía Vergara....
I can now criticise Marcel's work to my hearts content and he won't have to read it...... how will my posts appear to him? Can i request it to be a big red 'Redacted' over the content, with my name still shown? That ought to make him turn me back on, however briefly!
@Dragneye @v3rd3
I am sorry that you have missed my contributions to the forum, here is probably my finest 3 weeks:
vi ... f=5&t=3684"
Feel free to give me some crit, though it's a bit late for the challenge.
I admit to being rather lazy when it comes to 3D, i will endeavor to remedy that but it's not going to stop me having opinions.
I thought that my attempt to criticise Marce'ls 'sexy sentinel' and 'Guardian of the Temple' were rational, logical and non-abusive:
vi ... f=6&t=4422"
vi ... f=6&t=3648"
I have said repeatedly, his skill is not in question, it is the use to which that skill is put.
An example of what i consider to be interesting work:
vi ... f=32&t=530"
Not hugely 'skilled' in the Marcel sense but that doesn't matter, the honesty of it all makes skill irrelevant. It is using a new medium, 3D software on personal computer, as a means of expression, with no pretensions. It's totally unique and new.
Ps You can have the Sofia Vergara part of the present back, she's just stroking me for the money, She doesn't really love me(
PPs If you don't want to sit around when you are eighty saying ' i could have been a contender' you better start GETTING SERIOUS!!

From reading Marcel's reply in the other post, and what Saul just said...........
Very good guys. Exactly as it should be. Sometimes honesty is misinterpreted, and humbleness forgotten.
This Must be a place of relaxed pleasure and sharing.
The only problem... we all live too far from each other to be able to share a real beer.
C'est La Vie (Marcel, did I spell it right?)
