City engine for Vue !

Post by RAYMAN »

City engine for Vue !
Some of you might remember from the old forum that Benji posted something about the city engine from
a company called Procedural.
To make things short that was a multi thousand dollar application that can construct thousands of houses and buildings of all styles all by itself
just from a few nodes.
They just introduced a version for Vue users at Cornucopia for 299 $
199 $ for Cornucopia 3d members.....
I cant tell you whats missing from the big one but its worth a look at......
(update : its the same as the basic very it only doesnt export as an obj but with the vob format otherwise its the same)

I downloaded the trial and some of the samples and I´m stunned by how much fun this thing is.
Be warned you need a good system to run this pretty well but I managed to get those 3 cities up running in a few minutes on an old quadcore with
3 gigs of memory and 32 bit vista....
You can use any map any heightmap and you can basically develop any kind of procedural housing with it.. you can have any amount of different rules in the city
you can even draw and modify your own network.
I dont know how much memory it takes to export something big but I know I´m updating to something with 64 bit pretty soon ....
The higher Vue versions get the more resource hogs they are.....
So I have to do the update anyhow.....
A blade runner night cityscape in a few minutes...... :)
One of the scenes is Venice with buildings from the future.......

I will post some more as I explore this thing
and keep you guys updated
Peter

I thought I read the more affordable version (199 for Vue users) was not able to export in any format other than VUE. The more expensive version (599) will though. Correct?

The videos of the program in action are stunning though.

Thats correct !
But you wouldnt be able to import them into Truespace because they are to big.
I dont know how the Vue importer works though you will probably need a lot of memory and I have tried the trial you need a 64 bit system with lots of memory too
so its not made for the small computers.....
But its stunning as you say and lots of fun and alots to learn also..
its just a heads up of something cool but not something I recomend for everybody.....
look at it the samples alone are nice.....
we can dream though and the price is much nearer to reality then what i saw 2 years ago when we had it in the old forums.
