JR's MMO Dev Snapshots Gallery

Post by Jason Rogers »

I thought it about time i started posting snapshots of my MMO projects models, these are relatively high poly count (~8k each) but i am working on lower poly models for LOD swapping in game.

Anyways.. Here's my current "prototype" caucasian player character base models:

I'm using the latest version of Blender for all my modelling (2.5x) - "x" because i use the latest test builds from http://www.graphicall.org/builds/

The official 2.52 alpha release from http://www.blender.org is still great, but had a problem on my machine (i couldnt bake textures without it crashing)

Anyways.. what you all think of my newbie skills? i confess i did use makehuman to create templates for anatomical referance, but i can assure you that the models are my own. :) (heck i even did the ears based on my own real ones hehe)

Thankyou bitkar :) that really means a lot to me! i spent ages on the faces for both models..

It didnt take long to get them looking right, only a day or so each.. but i wanted to create the faces using the exact same topology, with commonly used loops and bands, not to over-the-top with the poly count, but enough to create any shapes i wish across the face. Now that i have it, i can quickly use it to create different faces with different ethnic origins etc ;)

When i have finished tweaking the models and have them exactly how i want them, i will post some screenshots showing the final topology, however this may take a while.. as im very fussy, even on details that might not otherwise be seen/noticed

I cant wait to have them totally finished though, modelling the scenery and creatures will be a breeze with all the knowledge ive gained so far

All criticism is welcomed, i am after all im a 3D newbie - anything to help me get better wont be turned away :)
