Not sure if this is the right place for this but thought I would see what you guys think of my post work. Since I am trying to develop my photo shop skills beyond making textures. HAHA. Here is one of my very old kind of week images I rendered in Vue several years ago and the same image after Photoshop.

After
Any suggestions welcome.

A lot better but not there yet.
The left machine (I can't think of the right word)
looks like it's foot is floating.
The flames look very fake, I would redo them.
I would motion blur the back third of the 3 jets to show their speed.
You also lost some of the darker shadows under the jets. The original 3
had a better contrast.
would agree with stenie though, though i'd say you can't retouch everything in photoshop, I'd reccomment toning up the contrast a bit, adding a bit of a soft focus (lens bloom) to it as well

my 2 cents would be to add some bright sunlight reflection on the glass detail of the fighters and a few on the windows of the building on the left....

nice start dan... looking good so far
like steinie said, plus blur the back ground to keep the focus on the mechs in front...
mech depth... it seems the one mech is further back then the other, so a slight blur on its edges would highlight the first one more and put the depth perspective right... also maybe tone down the brightness in the background, especially the sky but also the buildings, to focus on the mechs more...
flames on the building... those buildings are tall and far behind (even with 10 meter robots in front) and at such a distance you wont see flames, just thick columns of smoke so if you want flames, put it on the closest building to the right and definitely redo them because they look too cartoony and dont fit...
jets... firstly, those or current jets (AF18's) and mechwarriors is a futuristic setting, how about more futuristic fighters instead? as it is, these seem to be VERY low since they fly BETWEEN the buildings, you wont find formation flights that low so it might be better to put them further away behind the buildings but if you really want to you can keep them there... some depth blur on the further ones would do wonders like steinie suggested...
floating foot... if you want it to look like it is stepping out of the smoke, you need to lift it higher and bend its knee more, otherwise you need to see the grass surface as well...
green lasers... some green reflection off the smoke and the mech itself would look even better :)
suggestion... some battle damage on the mechs where they took hits?
Thx for the comments and all very good points. I will play around some more with this image and see how much I can correct with post work. Ultimately I would like to reposition some things in Vue, add some better battle damage to the mech textures and do the lasers with a plug-in or particle effect rather than render them in 3D. Glad you guys like the hornets in my MechWarrior scene HAHA I know some Battletech guys that would be pulling there hair out because of that.
I will start with the easy things like fire and contrast and highlights on the jets.
It is in french but a lot of images. Also if you understand french language you can see many tricks to create a cg movie with several soft as how to use vue into 3dmax to accelerate the render (very low in vue). The only thing you need to know: there is no perfect soft. long CG movie need differents soft and team need to learn how each soft can work together.
I have done about all I can do with this image except fix the floating foot. I may attempt this later because it needed to be moved in the first edits I made on the image. So for now I am finished with this one and back on another project. Of course I could always just crop the bottom of the image off to loose the floating foot.

I think the fix for the "floating foot" would be to put a vehicle under it.... the only reason it appears to float is the lack of height/depth cues.

Or you could get the original image, import it in as a new layer on top, and erase the parts you don't want (which is everything but a bit of ground around the foot)

The problem of the floating foot is that the ground disappears completely. with the smoke, we think there is emptiness below as if we are in the sky. But the cam is close to the ground and grass should be slightly below the image. In this way smoke comes out of the ground. Even if the foot disappears completely in the smoke, we know that there is a floor below. Is the magic of the brain.
Photoshop is the tools of tools. It is pretty limitless what you can do with an image. I will paint in part of the grass on the smoke layers mask and link to a larger copy. It would be cool if you could find time to help out with our animation project. I have been modeling (building a 3D mesh)a bit today so haven’t had time for Photoshop yet.

What is your animation project?
This month i need to go in several country for my work (Ryad, Dubaï, Shangaï...). I have not time to finish my animation but i think my BOT part 3 will be better than the first parts. I hope to show here a good animation in september. after i could help you...if i have time.
Great work DanX, just shows how much you can do to a pic in post. The only crit I can offer is that in some of your images, you can clearly see all the way down the gun barrel of the robot on the right-hand side. Other than that, it's a pretty cool image.
Now you know I must put a bullet in my gun barrels or shade them out from now on. Nice observation and it is something I do allot. You guys Have all helped with your awesome insight and honesty.
Marcel: there are about 9 of us working on a short animation project with Dragneye. If you are interested in helping out just PM me or one of the others involved. Your expertise would be welcome.
