This time I go cloud ! Am I mad ?
Well whats the Story...?
I am settled with all my tools that I bought years ago and I´m still happy with
them apart from that Blender is getting more capable each new day........ all I have been updating was Vue since I have a very good and not to expencive service
contract and always get the newest releases......
The only thing that I was sorry for was that when i started modeling in a poly enviroment I had to
end the whole thing in a poly enviroment....
When I started nurbs... well same thing... until I converted to poly..
The only way to avoid that was buying a 5 Digit $ application..... no money for that.....
The cheapest was to buy Rhino and T splines....
Thats a stunning 1700$ altogether..... not exactly pocketmoney......
From the Moi Forum I got the information that now that Alias bought T splines.. they
package T splines into 360 Fusion .... well.. its around 200$ cloud fee for 12 months..
I downloaded the trial and to be honest it does exactly what I and many were looking for..
its a missing link... you can swap from nurbs to poly and back like there is no difference....
you know I actually hate the idea of the cloud and I´m not exactly wild about the idea
of using alias tools.. but this saves me a lot of nerves....and it saves me from updating
my old Software that I have for years including Trurespace.....it works like a charm with
Truespce generated obj´s......(Luuv plug)

The time to change tools is when your needs demand it. If moving back and forth from splines to poly is critical and the only way to do that efficiently is the cloud tool then that is what you must do.

I have cs5 master suite now and will not likely need anything else ... until I need something the new cloud based adobe has.

I don't like the idea of cloud computing either because it exists as an annuity for its proponents and vendors ... little more. The service offered need not improve for the cost to increase or for the cost to exist. I like buying something and keeping it to let me manage my costs out of pocket.

yup same here I like to buy into systems.... but the other options are,nt feasable...
no way will I spend so much..... tsplines is the only thing that was missing in
my toolset... and I think thats what I have to do now...
Its alao a very capable cad tool altogether and its based on inventor....
Sooner or later I will have to go Adobe cloud too for the benefit of Lightroom
on my androids... when that comes out.... since sending my pictures from
outside in the field has become a major economical benefit....well I guess
times are changing.....what I realy fear.... especially for my job is that the server
is down for some time and I lose contact and the product is down without replacement
and dont say something cant happen because it did 2 months ago to CC users....

I do not like the idea of ​​cloud at 100% for the job. This makes it too dependent on the internet. This is useful for sharing but I prefer to work locally and keep my data on my hardware. I have no confidence in the durability of a host for my sensitive data. I prefer to secure myself and not depend on a company. I do not like having to track changes without my consent.
Soon we will no longer own anything. Everything lease. Finally, we will not own anything but it will cost more and we will not have the freedom to do as we want.
My problem is not knowing if it will be better. But to know if I will have the right to do as I want.

Just think if Caligari/trueSpace was in the cloud... We wouldn't be using the app today.

That's a good point. What happens if the company where your cloud stuff is goes out of business? Hopefully they would give enough notice and assistance to customers so they could backup their data and move to other systems.

When a few cloud companies have disasters people will only trust the biggest most stable companies with their cloud stuff. That thwarts competition and innovation.

The subscription model does have the good feature of fighting software piracy but the pirates will find a way.
