Remember what they say about first impressions?
OK I bit the bullet and bought VUE at a nice price. I paid them online and that
transaction must have registered my email and password. I received the disk and installed then it ask for it's THIRTY character registration alpha numeric code! I start VUE and I get a bogus message saying I must now sync this program with Corunucopia, WHAT? If I don't a watermark is placed on my images. BS to that.
I connect to Cornucopia (which is nothing but a Model whorehouse just waiting for more of my money) and it ask for me to register. However the email I enter returns a message saying it already was used and the password is wrong...(must be the password I used when I ordered VUE) I select "forgot my password" and they send me a new one...it doesn't work. A second try no good.
I now have to use another email address so that I can "sync" Vue with Cornucopia...doesn't this sound like the TurboSquid testicles /Caligari partnership they were trying to do before the toilet flushed...
Now Cornucopia gives me an "Activation Number" which is almost as long as my registration number!
Total BS.
I didn't ask or buy Cornucopia. Stop ramming this stuff down our throats. Some people don't need to buy a stinkin' toadstool, we can actually create it ourselves!!!

p.s. Can anyone still connect to Wizard's site?

Steinie I also had to activate it but didnt have any of these problems.......
I registered through "Eon software" not Cornucopia... ????????? It does let you download from Cornucopia content etc.
but thats nowhere necessary.....
Cornucopia is where the forums are etc. and also free content and tutorials etc its equivalent to the Caligari store with the tutorials etc.

I was FORCED to register with them. Maybe that was why I got a discount.

Ok -- maybe but you have an Eon product ! Cornucopia is just a subdivision of Eon its the marketplace and its the forum.
I actually had pretty good experience with cornucopia because I only go to the forums there and they are pretty helpfull people in the forums just like here.I sometimes downloaded a few free items like trees or materials and never run into any problems.
If you have any technical problems in the future or want to upgrade I normally do that through the Eon software site.
It takes some time but i normally got my answers eventually.....
I remember I got my reduced copy of Truespace 6 from the 3d world special through a british software house not directly
from Caligari ...
Dont be scared to go to the forums there ! theres many questions already answered....

I think Steinie's complaint isn't with the content or quality of Cornucopia but is with the fact that Vue wouldn't work fully (watermark) without registering for Cornucopia. That extra service should be optional, not required to use Vue.

When I saw the title "Vue is stupid" I though that people who want to post that it is not should make another thread "Vue is stupid is stupid". (Nerd joke. There was a technical paper about using goto in Fortran titled "Goto Considered Dangerous". Another paper opposed that view and was titled "Goto Considered Dangerous Considered Dangerous".

I hope "Vue is stupid is stupid" is not stupid!

carrara doesnt work without registering to the Daz site...... truespace registering also got you registered to the caligari site.
there´s nothing wrong with Cornucopia its a part of Eon and they dont bug you with content its the content that the people make
who use the software.Its actually pretty handy because there are pretty good trees there and some great materials.
No commercial program works without registration and most dont work without activation.
Terminator salvation destroid L.A City was done with models that were bought off the Vue userbase at Cornucopia and destroid
by the modelers..... to simulate the effect. Something that the studios never did at the caligari site.
Its like saying - hey they sell plugins at Caligari i dont want to be a part of that....
Its nowhere near the turbo quid tentacles because turbo squid is a totally different coorporation....

I hate this cattle-drive stuff, I don't know why companies do this - especially to geeks that usually resent being herded and spammed. They might be a bit hard up, I've heard that the content scene is in decline.

There is no cattle drive stuff here.Nor is there any mac anything.
having to put an incredibly long activation number into the field isnt funny but
its something that is the other side of the coin of others that are not honest ....
What so illegitimite to have an online store where they sell what others produce that bought the program ?
Anything from plugins to trees....or tree species .
Everything is in decline right now due to lack of money from people.

When I bought trueSpace I was not forced to signup to these forums or anything else. I entered the activation code and used it. It was my decision later to join and participate. If you send me an activation number to my address you have all the information you need. Software companies now think of themselves as rental agencies now rather then software providers.
I registered the software when I bought it. Now they force you to do it again with their other products. Nothing will change if we except this bogus up-selling poop.

They send you a link and tell you to use that link on another computer since you cannot connect.

Stenie: I had exactly the same problem as you when I first bought Vue -drove me dippy. In the end the customer/technical support sorted it out and it then worked.....not had problems since with upgrades...but feel your pain! And obviously this is not an isolated problem you faced.

Johny: It may be the case with a downloaded version of Vue you need to have internet verification -this was my experience -don't know if its the same if you buy the box?!

General: Despite the pain of getting Vue set up nothing comes in the same league as when I had to verify microsoft office 2007 with my new Dell computer. It wasn't connected to the internet (which like Vue was a requirement) 'cos I couldn't get it to work with my wireless network. However, there was a phone number...which I called and which led me to an automatic answering sevice with more alternative decision trees than the average Swedish forest. I had to negociate the whole lot in Swedish (not my first language) and then was required to enter and then receive an unbelievably long set of digits in order to activate. If I ever have to reinstal, I will weep!

So after that Vue was fairly painless as the customer support was fairly quick in sorting things out for me. I didn't have to use an alternative email address they just reset everything for me...

This wasn't the download version of Vue, I bought the boxed version.

At least they write nice software.

Sometimes it is difficult to make a point that is about principle. That is what I see Steinie's point as: a matter of principle. Cornucopia and Vue are probably fine products. Registering for Cornucopia isn't really all that much trouble. Per CdeB the customer service is effective. So there is really no practical problem here. It is a matter of principle. Advertising that the Cornucopia service is available and what it is ... I've no problem with that if is isn't too pushy. Forcing you to sign up in order to use something else you bought is just wrong.

Yes those activation processes are a pita .... but they are very common.
But Vue is still a great product and once you have it going you dont look back on the trouble you had with registration.
i actually had quite some good experience with being registered for Cornucopia i had lots of plants a nd trees and materials for free..
and i love to ask questions at the Cornucopia forums.
They are not pushing you...... cornucopia is a part of the Eon software company....
In my case buying the bundle of lightwave 8 with vue 5 inf also got me a few dollars of freebies in that store so i wasnt all to unhappy about that. I almost got Vue 5 inf for free for getting Lightwave up to 9.6 that was an incredible deal at that time.. sorry they no longer have it ..

When I registered I worried about what they would be sending me but for what it was worth I really didn't mind getting emails advising me of the free content or the discounts on plug in bundles.

The little thing that irks me is when you move the freebies to your shopping cart one of those "others who bought this ...." thing shows up in the cart for $12.95 or one of the freebies has a price sticker on it ... what you have to look for is some of the freebies are free if locked to your license key.

If they are not locked to your key you have to pay the fee.

All in, I still am enjoying learning Vue and I believe I will enjoy using it for a long time.

Best part, if I get a studio going here then I will have at least one product where I can hire the skill set.
