Greetings,
I searched the Caligari website for the version history of trueSpace and was unable to find a list. So I thought I'd start one. Please help me fill in the gaps and I'll update this post as more information becomes available. Thanks.

Re: trueSpace Version Timeline
Thanks spacekdet!!!
I wonder why the timeline didn't turn up in any of my searches. Anyway, your find helped me with the two missing dates that I needed but it still leaves some gaps regarding point releases of trueSpace. Plus, I found a few more version dates by reading through old Caligari press releases.
Again, if anyone else has additional information as to the year that additional versions of trueSpace were released, please let me know. For example, was there a 5.5 release? How about anything between 4 and 5?
By the way, the earliest media that I could find in my collection is a trueSpace 3 CD. I'm sure that I've got version 1 diskettes around somewhere, too, but haven't been able to find them yet.
Best regards, First Light

Hi First Light.
There was a version 4.3 as well, released I think around 2000. That's where I got onboard.

Re: trueSpace Version Timeline
From what I remember there was a 4.1, 4.2, and a 4.3, which was the best version of the 4.x series.
After this it gained a lot of power but lost some of the elegance, somehow.
The left-right-left-right click sequence to assign a material is still missed by me; much slicker than today's method of clicking an icon on the right side of the screen, chasing down a Library that opens on the opposite side of the screen, (forehead smack) double-clicking there, control-clicking a blank box... ugh. Clunk, clank.
I don't recall a 5.5... 5.2 rings a bell; I think it went straight to 6 from there.

Thanks froo and spacekdet!
I added 4.2 and 4.3 to the timeline. Hopefully someone else can help nail down their dates.

Huh? They're both free and they always have been. Here's the download page: http://www.caligari.com/downloads.html" .Excalibur wrote:How come tS 7.6 is free but not 7.61?
Now please stay on topic. This thread is about the version timeline of trueSpace. If you want to introduce a new subject (like what's free and what's not) then you need to start a new topic.

Re: trueSpace Version Timeline
I don't recall ever paying for a version of trueSpace..
....after starting with free copies of tS 1 through to 4.3 on cover discs of mags like PC Format or 3D World, I started submitting artwork to Caligari for use in promo material or doing a tutorial for illustrator etc. So I bagged a free copy as a prize or payment. I had developer versions of tS6.6 onwards as part of the beta program then almost weekly builds as I worked on the UI, icons and illustrations for the manual and guides.
Ah, happy days and as I hit 44 I know I will never know a program so well again as I simply don't have that sort of time to invest anymore. Enjoyed looking at the timeline.

Re: trueSpace Version Timeline
hahaha wow.
I started with version 4.3 demo when I was like 13 years old. Later I got more into 3D, cause I was bored and it was fun. I played with version 5 for a moment, then I worked a lot on random jobs for cash when I was like 15 years old and I bought trueSpace 5.5 SE and then I bought 6.6 later. Those were great times, waiting for the CD's to arrive by post down here to Colombia, hoping by golly that the post won't loose the packages overseas. Once they arrived it was like Christmas. Later I was about to travel to NZ, and that was when I heard the news that they had released 7.6 . I was so happy about the real time features, IK rigs and new modelling tools, I was willing to buy it when I could. But unfortunately I went on a world trip and hit 15 countries over 12 months, so I kinda lost touch with everything. Once I got to Canada, I learnt it was discontinued by Microsoft... but left for free.
Sadness proceeded to continue. Yet.. a nice little cheap program to work on my stuff lives on still as a hobby, and TS prevails.

Re: trueSpace Version Timeline
I use trueSpace for my job since only 15 or 16 years. I think i won more 1000 time the price of the soft and buy my home thank to it. I mostly saved years of learning if I had constantly changed software. Today is different for Young who start a professionnal life.
