Direct x for xp 64 bit

Post by bkjernisted »

Will automatic updates have installed the best direct x on my computer for Truespace? Which direst x should I have installed and do I need or can I uninstall the version already on my computer? Thanks!

You need the standard 9.0c version with xp 64 bits. For the version 10 or more, you need to update to vista or seven.
The version 10 for xp 64 bits depend of the driver of your graphic card. Don't try to install directx 10 on xp in an other way. don't forget: the first directx 10 card can't work well with xp. You need the most recent card to do that. But Truespace is not a recent software and you have no benefit to use the last version of directx. Maybe you will have more problem...

i think DX10 is not possible to install in standard way. There is some project for instaling dx10 to XP, but its not working well or at all. I dont recomend to even try it, as you can destroy your winxp and you will have to reinstall.

You can install the 9.0c runtime on Win7

Try going to Nvidia's control panel and set AA to 2 for truespace, worked for me

thx for the quick reply
i tried installing the directx 9c runtime but the install said that its already there.
i did the change in the nvidia controll panel and it worrked until i loaded the project i'm working on then it froze up again
so i'll have to uninstall and reinstall(cuz once this happens i cant switch bask to lightworks cuz it' crashes)
i'm thinking its a texture in the scene is there a limit on size or type of textures in the vl engine.
i often create them at 1024 x1024 for quality
and use tga format.
remember it worked fine before i loaded my scene
but even after i start a new scene it still crashes.
do's virualight work for other ppl or am i the only one this is happening to?

i just realized i may be in the wrong thead i'm using 7.6 if so please direct me to the correct one.

Try deleting the default.ctx in TS before reinstalling TS altogether. If that won't work then go ahead and reinstall TS. This way you lose less premade models and other files you've added up the the crash events.

If you're re-installing anyway try "Tiles' Tip" and install to C: rather than C:Program Files.

Run dxdiag and see if it turns up any clues.
