Seems like a LEGO way of doing a render. I thinking of having a some pieces of a buildeing which you can put together in vast nubmer of ways.

Unfortunately I am a bit low on ideas now. =)

Giving some:
Futuristic ones, ethnic (Chinese Monasteries, Tibetian Houses, Zulu Tribes, Machu Picchu Temples, Lakota and Iroquois thorp, and so on!

Ethic for me would be viking long house then...
The problem is that we don't really know how they looked. Our best guess is from early wood churches like this one from Norway: Of course, they didn't look like this in the shape but they probably had woodwork that looked like this.
