Bleak Orbital Terminal - WIP Part 5

Post by marcel »

Not a real WIP but just to show the new development. Here are some screen shot of the part 5 of the movie. To start this important part, I use an image of Parva to show the world. Thank you Parva for this gift. This is the starting point for the formation of a new crust that i added above the image with animated clouds. The crust appear throught the clouds slowly.

The crust is formed by assembling all the floating rocks. The crust will cover the entire city without destroying it because it is also flown in the air.There will be some pieces of land (sucked into the crust to feed its construction) that will come off the ground. But the city will survive in a new perpetual night.

Above the crust, the vegetation will spread through an important new element of the movie: the light of life. It is cool to show the vegetation to grow perceptibly. This gives a can of fresh air after all that has happened. Perhaps because spring. :D
(click on the last image to zoom the details of the vegetation, the original movie is an hd movie and the modeling need a lot of work for a better result).

thank for the comments.
To grow the plants, i use keys frame (only one at the start and one at the end). I change the size and the position (small vertical move). In other scene i use mesh too, not here. I render 2 animations: one without leaf and one with the leaf. then i use Premiere to create a transition between both animation.
For the leaf on the ground, i used physic simulation with an animated object to create a collision. Then i erase the animated object to render only the leaf and add the light instead of the object with ParticleIllusion.
For the crust above the world i use an alpha mask on the crust to simulate the disappearing in the clouds far away and add animated cloud all around with ParticleIllusion after the 3d render.
above the crust there are all the building made by centibots. I'll cover them with plants like Angkor temple and all the roots around the stones. Maybe something like Avatar, a new source of inspiration for me.

wow... small vertical moves? i take it that means you select the vertexes or faces and move them bit by bit? must have taken long!

i didn't see a link to an animation, do you have it somewhere to view?

ps. what is ParticleIllusion?

Just a vertical move of the entire object. not vertice move (too many work). the axis of the plants are on the ground. when i change the size, it simulate the grow.
No animation posted for now. maybe i can post here some small example before i post the entire part on youtube.
ParticleIllusion is a soft to create special effect on a video (post process work).

Ahh, so it is only a resize... but what about the leafs? don't they distort their shape if you stretch them with the branches?

small clip would be great! :)

ParticleIllusion sounds interesting, will have a look at it...

thanks marcel, keep us updated ;)

The leafs grow at the same time than the branches (group of objects). There is no reason to distort their shape. Because there is a transition with 2 videos (without and with leafs), it seem the leafs grow from zero to the final size. It is only a simulation.

i see, thought it was a vertical stretch but it is a uniform resize on all access... looks pretty good in the short clip :)

very nice, marcel, I still have a lot to learn from you about animation!!!

Animation requires a lot of tips and work. With experience, it is not necessary to do everything possible on the same software. To use the best of all, you must first know their options. You finally have your own technic and personnality. If you work alone, it is not always useful to work with the professional technics. Do as it suits you. Only the result is important. When you work with a team to the same project, it is another problem.
ps: I would be void if I had to work in an animation company because I lose all my technique that would no place here. I hate that people forces me to do as the others. I'm too old for this. :lol:

hehehe, yeah, they should leave you to work the best way you can...

i still need to find and learn a lot of techniques for animation, haven't really done any, even after almost 10 years of using trueSpace! tend to stick more to modeling but i am interested in animating...

First class Marcel!
I do hope that the little "Sprite of Goodness" (bright light moving through
the forest and fixing the mess) kicks some major bot butt.
Well that is my version anyways...
Your quality of work is something we all hope to achieve someday.
Fantastic.

thanks for the comments. :)
@Steinie:
The new crust will be like a new world. I think the centibots will have nothing to do if this new world is perfect. The only doubt is what happens with the town. Maybe this world will go to the moon or other destination. I am not sure. The final will be more fantastic and surreal. I still do not have good image in my head but it will be like a surreal painting.
@Richlevy:
Terrific as the real world can be. We do not see you often in this forum. I hope everything going well for you.
@bitkar:
Yes music on the final movie. Dramatic, airy and may be conventional like Beethoven - Symphony no.7 - 2. A piece of art used by several movies.
@Finis:
Me too. Between each party, there will be a scene with a scoreboard and symbols that are taking place until the puzzle is finished. like a countdown. I'll post the whole with a better definition, 480p or 720p

Thank rayman. Beside the sea, there are a lot of people. the interior is more savage all along the riviera. The best places are not tourist ad nature lovers can see a lot of things, provided that you make inquiries before making excursions. Have a good holiday!
Next week I'm going to shoot hd movie at Qatar near saudi Arabia, all expenses paid. I have some opportunity of profits from work. I hope this one can leave me time to finish the movie B.O.T.

I'll be back someday :) Life is taking all of my time the last year and a half. 2 more months and the Bachelors degree is finished, than I am going to have to find a real job :bananacool2: Till than I play around with Modo when I have some free time, or 3DCoat, and on occasion Messiah Studio. I think I have forgotten how to do anything cool though, it feels like a lifetime ago. I still pop in here when things are slow, I am writing 10-12 pages (single spaced!) per week as well as the studying and the reading and than add on another 20-30 hours of work... My life sucks :roll:

Can't wait for your next update.
