GameSpace Naming animation sequences

Post by nigec »

Sorry for the possible dumb question but I guess we're all entitled to make at least one!
How do you name animation sequences, ie Idle, Walk, Run which a game engine will understand
I've tried several wrong ways but the sequences don't show up in Assimp Viewer

The game engine Visionaire has recently got 3D support but as yet I've failed dismally with Blender and Makehuman, I can get Gamespace models "in there" but no animation
The plan was to do a tutorial but there's little point in doing a Gamespace one seeing as no one can actually get it lol
I wonder if there's a limit for software being dead before you can share it?

Copyright and patent laws vary from nation to nation.

In the US copyright and patent laws are intended to ensure that the creator of intellectual property or inventor of something has a good opportunity to benefit from his work while also preventing old writings from disappearing because no one can publish them or valuable innovations from remaining secret forever lest the competition gets them. Various technicalities and wickedness often thwart these intentions.

In US law an author owns the copyright on his work the moment he creates it and it expires many years after the death of the author. 70 I think. At that time it becomes public domain and anyone can publish it. The copyright owner may relinquish, diminish, or transfer his control of the property by declaring it public domain, selling the rights, using less restrictive text than "All rights reserved" or by contract (licensing). As a wholly owned subsidiary all of Caligari's former property belongs to Microsoft and it has not been long since the "death of the author".

There may also be patents on software or part of it. In the US a patent expires some years after it is granted by the patent office. 20 years I think.

just took a quick look at visionary and it looks like it uses collada (dae)format. I say this because it gets the animations through assimp and i think the only animation format is collada. That being said. If you use the 6.6 side of truespace (or gamespace) use the true x plugin. You can name animations. If i'm right about the collada thing you can also export collada from the 7 side.

.............................THIS IS FROM THE WIKKI.............................................................

Visionaire 4.0 supports 3D-Models with animations for character animations. Only a single animation is needed for each animation type (walking/standing/talking) since the fitting direction is calculated from the 3D-Model.
Visionaire uses the Assimp Library for loading 3D-Models. With Assimp Viewer ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/assimp/ ... e/download" ) you can verify yourself if the 3D-Model file can be loaded without any errors. All files which can be loaded in Assimp Viewer should also work in Visionaire.
Assimp only supports bone animations and no keyframe animation of formats like *.md2, *.md3 und *.3ds.
Due to the complexity of the file format (especially with animation) it's not always easy to get animations running in Visionaire. For example we could not export a working animation with Cinema 4D (maybe that's different now with a newer version like R14/R15). A recommended and successfully tested workflow is to model the character in Cinema 4D, export the model and then animate it in Blender. Other working models were created and animated with Maya and finally exported as *.x file.

Hope this helps.

Enforcement is 9 10ths of the law. Gamespace, for example has such a small following that releasing it would more then likely not be pursued by Microsoft unless someone actually tried to sell it commercially. I have a copy of Gamespace which I got for free. I think the copyright laws are simply not enforced unless the software is still actually being sold for profit by the original creator. Microsoft, to my knowledge has no plan to release the product again, so I'd say if someone ask for a copy just keep it low key in terms of providing it. Go with your gut feeling though. Leroy.
