I don't know if this has been posted already but there is a neat little sculpting app called Sculptris,it is light and simple to use.Even though I have 3DCoat v3 Pro I will do much of my sculpting with Sculptris as it is a joy to use.

The meshes it creates can have a lot of poly's, so I've been using Antageo Balancer to decimate them first. Otherwise, there should be no problems.

Sculptris is amazing! it works perfect with Truespace.. i had no problems with it and indeed is quite useful for mapping characters and create normal maps over it in realtime..
