Mikom I meant to respond to our little conversation about the new BSG. The thing I did not like about it, was that was doing this crazy religion side story, which I thoght came across as dumb. I also hated the silly little fake "cuss" words they had in thier. Makes me think of when I was eight years old making up bad words to sount cool.

Re: Stomper.
Oh? Well I think (not entirely sure about this) that Glen A Larson who made the original series was the one who helped work out the whole new religion-thingy in the new series. I remember reading that he already had some interesting ideas in the original series about religion, however, I think those aren't that apparent in the original series.
About the "cuss" words, I think they just used some of the words from the original series to please the fans

Interesting model. don't forget to change the texture of the turret. Too small compared to the other texture. Thank to share.

Re: Stomper.
i think this wont help unless you apply new UV space. Its better to keep it seperated, just glued, not unioned. Anyway you can apply UV on group. Making the texture bigger is maybe the best solution after all.

looks great rjeff... my kind of model
how did you make the cammo texture? might add a little more detail on the side of the truck where those semi-circles are, maybe google some real vehicle images to get an idea of what that could be and should look?
any ideas for a terrain? image of a ditch comes to mind with the stomper halfway leaping out of it, front in the air and dirt flying with guns blazing!

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah I have somemore detail to add. There is a shovel that is on the side I will add that, as well as some more of the door and hood hinges. As for the the scene. Oh I have that all worked out in my head. That you will not see till it is all done.

I like the looks of this, rjeff!
Nice modeling on the vehicle, and the room has a "warm" feel to it. To me, the depth of field needs to be kinda high on smaller stuff like this. Kinda enhances the miniature effect.

Looks great! and very nice D.O.F. I agree with Frank that the D.O.F. is not to much.
Tip: place a area light inside de cube on the side with the de letter V, the part that catches the light.
Make it a yellowish colour and shadow casting off and squared fall off. This will fake a bounce effect back to the floor, therefore make it look more natural. Give it a go, you'll see what I mean.

I really like the image. I think the fact that the block "floats" actually makes it look more realistic ... as in the floor is not perfectly level or the block is sitting on something else like dust or dirt.

Ok got a wierd issue with this image. All of a suddenly, and there have been no changes to it, it renders black. I have no idea why. I delete the lights, add new ones and the same thing. I have even rebooted the computer. Nothing. Any ideas?

Re: Stomper.
black render (as crash) can be an error when writting the scene on disk. if you can't repair the scene do this:
-save the objects (.cob)
-save the light
-save the the cam
-remember all setting of the render.
-turn bridge off if necessary
-disable "auto load" on preferences
-close TS
-open TS on model side with a new scene
-load all the objects, light, cam.

turn the model, that it will be heading to left. Now you have to big the "shadow side". just my opinion.

btw i would get the stomper on it or as its going down, so it can be seen better, not just only the bottom.

Ok I need some feed back here guys. I am tring to spice up the lighting abit. Now what I have at the moment is a HDRI with a spotlight for the light comming in the window. I like the effect I am getting, but I can't see to get the shadows for the window to be soft like the HDRI light is. I have it set to map, and I have the circle spread out all the way. I know there is a way to make it softer I am just not sure how.
I have some work on the window sill and a image in the window. So focus the on the light.

Re: Stomper.
Hi RJeff,
Try turning off transparent shadows. I don't know what to do if you need glass in the window.
Mapped shadows:
Raise map size number to remove banding.
Lower sharpness number to remove banding in soft shadow areas and keep the shadow from being wider than the object.
Raise quality number to smooth soft shadow areas.

Re: Stomper.
rjeff, this is awesome. The modeling is great and the lighting looks great too.
Is the HDRI light representing just the natural light within the room or that another distinct light source? The only reason I ask is it looks like the shadow going to the left off the toy cube "A" is darker than the shadow caused by the direct light source coming through the window off the toy cube "Y".
This really is excellent work!!!

Re: Stomper.
Every now and again I do. Now since I put installed Win 7 x64 and added a 2 gig of ram for a total of 4, I have had less. I did have alot of issues when I ran TS on WIN 7 x32 with 2 gig of ram.
When I start a heavy render I have to reboot the system. If I don't TS will try to render and then it will give me an error and I have to restart. Or it will start to render and then stop.

Re: Stomper.
i can create complex scene (as the hd animation i did) with only 2 giga ram. only some bugs that i know since a long time (6.6) and i know what to do to avoid these bug. OK i work on XP, the best OS for TS but i think you need to work on 7.6 instead 7.61, even on win 7 if you use the model side. 7.61 model side have more bugs compared to 7.6 model side (most with setting, the changes have affected the model side). 7.61 is an update for only the workspace and i think this update is very bad for the model side. Also remember "bridge off".
Just for info: a scene on model side with bridge off can be 10 time lighter than the same with bridge on! I have experienced (problem of duplication of the scene, history, and more). Also with 4 gigas on win7/7.61 you can do less than XP/7.6 and 2 gigas. and maybe less than win7/7.6 with 3 gigas.

Re: Stomper.
too many reasons for that. OS, software, hardware (driver). i think we have all different problem. The only think i am sure is 7.6 is better than 7.61 for the model side. example: 7.61 don't save the setting of the hdri with the scene. I have no experience with win7 but i am sure to keep another computer with XP until i don't use TS. Because I know where are my bugs and avoid it. now it is natural for me. The problem is we have not necessary the same bug and it is difficult to help.theuns wrote:hmmm, well I'm still on Win XP Pro SP3 but a with nice dual core 2.7GHz and 4GB ram and a 1GB Radeon 4600... mine just crash when I do booleans and complex navigation/manipulation... so i'm not sure what causes it...

I had problems with my older NvideaGforce videocard, but when I disabled multythreading crashes where much less.

Re: Stomper.
turn off the bridge if you have a scene loaded is not a good solution.
first close the scene, then turn bridge off, close and open TS (be sure TS start on model side view and bridge off). open a .scn scene on model side and never go to the workspace. save the scene to clean all workspace data inside. now your model side is clean. not before.

again i have to mention that 7.61 works great on my pc (gigabyte mb with ati chipset, ati graphics and phenom cpu), which run WinXP x64. I dont use 7.6 anymore. Crashes veeery rarely and usually it has some good reason to crash (like rendering object with geometry flaw)
