TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
Hi, i'm back again, and I realized that the workspace side of TrueSpace doesn't have Collada (.dae) support, and neither does the model side, for importing models from other 3d software. I tried Clinton's Collada importer for TS7.61, and all it does when I click the import Collada button is crash TrueSpace. I'm in need of assistance for Truespace's workspace side Collada import. Maybe a free script or plugin?
Sorry if i'm posting in the wrong place of this forum, but I wasn't sure where it should go.
Thanks.

The save as .dae is in the workspace menu file save structure.
When you are in the model side there is one file menu labelled "ts6 files" and the workspace just shows as "file".
The image below shows what I see when I use the "file" "save" menu....

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
But I don't need to save something from TrueSpace in Collada (.dae) format, I just need to know how to get a 3d model in the Collada format into TrueSpace, so I can export it in another format. I saw your screen grab, and it showed you saving something in Collada (.dae) format, and that's not what I want to do. I have models in Collada format that I want to save from TrueSpace's workspace side in some other formats. I would like it if you could show me (if there is a way) how to import models (basically opening the model from a different software) in Collada format in TrueSpace (workspace side specifically).
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Did you copy the "Object - Rsx Load" library into the Rs Main Libraries? If you don't it will crash. I'll add a check in the next version.tamtam wrote:... I tried Clinton's Collada importer for TS7.61, and all it does when I click the import Collada button is crash TrueSpace. ....

It looks like you haven't seen any of the instructions for installing the plugin. This is the page that has the instructions. You need to download and install the rsx plugin.tamtam wrote:Now I get an error as in the following picture when I click on the button, after doing what you said:

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
I put the .rsx file into the TrueSpace7.61-->ts-->RS Main Libraries folder, like it says in your video. But when I tried to install the plugin on the workspace side, I used the Package Manager, right-clicked on the empty space in there, and clicked on 'open' in the dialog box for opening the plugin I had downloaded from your site. Nothing loaded. It didn't load your plugin at all, from what I can see in Truespace.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
Try double checking to be sure it didn't load into the list. I just did a test on a freshly downloaded rsx file from the website on a laptop(vista 32bit) that had nothing installed but truespace and windows. At first it looked like it didn't load but it took a few seconds for it to show in the list. Maybe your machine has a similar delay. Oh and FYI you can store the rsx file anywhere on your machine it doesn't have to go into any specific folder.tamtam wrote:I put the .rsx file into the TrueSpace7.61-->ts-->RS Main Libraries folder, like it says in your video. Here's one more thing you can try. Attached is an example plugin written by caligari for the SDK. If you can't load this then maybe there is something wrong with you're truespace installation.

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
I couldn't load that plugin you gave me in TS7.6, or in TS7.61 either. What do I have to do now? There's probably no way I could download the free version of TS7.6 or TS7.61 from the Caligari website again, since it's now owned by Microsoft. Where can I download the free version with the workspace and the model sides both together?
Thanks a ton for your time and effort Clintonman, you're a big help to me, as well as many other members.

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
Something must be wrong for sure. You can still download the standalone version from caligari website. If you can get it to work with that then you can just save the scene file and open it up in 7.61 full version. If you haven't tried already you can also try reinstalling truespace, maybe there is a file missing or corrupt or something.tamtam wrote:I couldn't load that plugin you gave me in TS7.6, or in TS7.61 either. Reset to Default Context might be worth a try. Else you could try clicking on some of these links in this post:

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
I downloaded the only version of Truespace at the Caligari site. It was called "Rosetta" I think. I still couldn't load plugins on the workspace side of TS (any version). I did follow the directions on your site again for the Rosetta version this time, Clintonman, and it seems like no new plugins are loading at all, for me anyway, on the workspace side, no matter what the plugin is. I even clicked on the button "Reset to Default Context", and that didn't work either.
Also, for some strange reason, in one (or possibly all) scenes in TS7.61 and TS7.6 that I have made, the weight painting brush doesn't work at all when I press the button for it, after I have a model set up with bones and joints skinned to it on the workspace side.
It seems Truespace is going crazy on me.
Can anyone please shed some light on me and my troubled Truespace...please?
Thanks.
I think I might consider Ultimate Unwrap 3d Pro, since I could use it not only as a UV mapper, but also as an importer and exporter. The full pro version seems to have the formats I need to get my models from Maya to Dark Basic Pro. A made a stick figure 3d character in Truespace, and imported it to Maya because I find it somewhat easier to animate with, and then I exported the model in pieces, but I just needed some way to convert my Collada (.dae) models to DirectX or .3ds formats, so I can then use the models in DBPro.

Sorry you're having so many troubles, but the good news is that the weight paint is a know problem with Rosetta/truespace7.61beta that is fixed by trueblue's patch. viewforum.php?f=55"

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
As far as I remember , I did see this before when plugins wouldnt load or show in the list in WS side , and as far as I remember it was to do with the VS redistributables not being installed on a machine , usually when tS is being installed there should be a check during install for directx components and also a VS redist check , do you know if this showed when you installed tS. ? (I think it was VS2005) redist.tamtam wrote:I couldn't load that plugin you gave me in TS7.6, or in TS7.61 either. What do I have to do now? as an aside , I dont know if the turbo squid tentacles package will install the correct VS redist, but it might be worth a try, or if Vladimirs iopt package plugin from siprogs.sk contains a redist as well.

Re: TrueSpace doesn't have Collada support?
Never mind now everyone, I got it under control. I got Ultimate Unwrap 3d Pro, loaded my model in with the UV map I made in Maya, using the collada format for import into UU3d Pro. Then I saved it as a DirectX 9 (.x) file from UU3d Pro. I think I saw in the Truespace workspace side that there is either support for import or export of Collada (.dae) files, but I can't remember which it was... export? ...import? ... both?
