Website and Forums Progress Report
Just an update on my activities.
Cleaned the administrators email - was filled with undelivered email notices, probably left over from a hack
Generated and downloaded a full backup (3.3Gb) - looks like it's all there including the forum database
Installed a version of xampp, "...a free and open source cross-platform web server solution ..." on a local machine. I got version 1.8.2 which has apache, mysql and php versions close to what we have here on the live web server.
Next steps 1. recreate this forum on my local webserver, 2. update that forum to the latest version available, 3. update the actual live forums
Finis made a couple of changes yesterday adding vimeo support and improved support for youtube videos
You can go here viewforum.php?f=15" to request forum/website changes

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Logged into the forums on my local webserver. You can see the address is not united3dartists.com
I finally got around to recreating the forums on my local machine. I was able to login and download a file posted by a user. The only tricky part was that the database was too big to upload, about 52Mb. The default max upload size for xampp is 2Mb. For comparison my lunarpages personal website has a limit of 50Mb upload which is also too small. I found a server script called BigDump that breaks up and imports the database file in pieces. The important thing is that I understand how the forum is setup so fixing problems and updating won't be a problem.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
I developed an upgrade path to the latest phpbb version for the forums. Last thing is to make it not ugly since all the theme items had to be disabled and then removed.

Personally I like that new default one.. I have never used the dark one that we had. Remember to give us a few options so those who like it dark can do so and others can have it like the default or anything in between..

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Good point, it is user selectable so we can have several options for the user. I think the default, prosilver, is almost required since the update instructions say set it as the default and deactivate other choices before updating. How do you make a poll? I figure make a poll with all the options, make the most popular the default and have all the others available as user options.stan wrote:Personally I like that new default one.. The poll option only seems possible in a new thread. We maybe able to in admin mode but I think a new thread with the link to the options and the poll will be the best way.

Sucuri says we are blacklisted by McAfee but no other they check https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/ww ... rtists.com
McAfee site not helpful http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/united3dartists.com
May or may not be related but when we are on InterServer we can get a free SSL. That will make logins more secure.
Themes: I'm not picky. Whatever y'all do is fine with me. Do you plan to update the forum software before or after the move to InterServer? I recommend after.

This specific custom dark theme will be disappearing, so you might want to check out the other themes. The twighlight theme was last updated for version 3.0.9 in 2012. We will be upgrading to version 3.2 after the move.Draise wrote:I use the dark theme. Love it. No problems here. Good work! !!

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Upgrade progress so far.
Transferred forums to a new host.
Did one update of the forums, 2 more to go to be up to date.
Deactivated all extra themes, only use default during the upgrade process. Vote for future themes here viewtopic.php?t=5300
Fixed(I hope) the logout problems.
Fixed active topics
Removed size limits on images
Increased attachment count to 25, previously was 3.
Plan:
upgrade 2 more times to the latest forum software
add more themes based on votes
consolidate inactive sections and move the more active sections to the top of the forums

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Got an
email from someone trying to register for the forums. The result is...
Fixed the email notifications which got broken with the move.
Simplified the captcha so it's easier to read, because I hate extremely difficult to read captcha images.
The number of registration attempts was set below the default value of 5.
Made the security question more obvious.
Tested it and it works now.
I will revisit registration after we are on the latest phpbb version.

Still had some cookie problems. Solved by changing the name of the forum cookie which forces the new cookie to be used, solving the login/logout problem.

Thanks! Now that phpBB is up to date we can use the current version of PHP which will be more secure. Also, you can ask InterServer for the free SSL that comes with our account. That will make logins more secure and stop some blacklisters and security programs from complaining.

What happened to prosilver it was a nice one. The highlight when you moused over a category was great, it's not with the other silver one. It was also chosen more that the other as well. Bring it back.

No worries, it will be back. I have an idea to bring it back as a child theme, which should solve the problem. It will be the same theme but will be seen by the browser as a different theme forcing an update.

If you can change parts of the layout can you move the quick links back to where they used to be? The droplist is not really quick.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
My bookmark for U3DA goes to Active Topics since I want to see what's new. I don't mind using the quick links menu. I don't use "remember me" but here are some guesses:
- Is your browser set to remove all cookies on closing?
- Was your browser privacy exception to allow the U3DA cookie updated to use https?
- Does your security software remove or block the cookie?
- Does the cookie contain anything with http instead of https?
- Try rebooting your computer. Especially if you normally never turn it off.
Very minor: I'd like the "type the number ten" thing removed from the user profile shown with posts. No big deal, whenever, someday.

Draise, you need to remove your bookmark and all cookies in your firefox. Go to the https version of site. I saved bookmark of before login. Then login and remember me checked, that does it.
I had that problem which was only fixed after doing that. Bookmark alone didn't do it

I'll be glad when the forum update is complete as I have to re login every time now. I use IE 11 and it can't seem to remember my login? The old site never had this issue so I'm guessing there's some other issue going on now. I deleted the old links and created new ones but the issue seems to persist when I shut down the browser.

BNG are you logging into the secure site now?

Of course you cleared out your cookies too?
I notice that using an IPhone or Ipad the newest changes are not present. (expanded links).

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
BNG: Try this. Set your browser's privacy or security to forbid most cookies and delete them all on closing. That's just good security/privacy practice. Then make an exception for U3DA so its cookie isn't deleted on closing. Then click the link or icon at the bottom of U3DA's pages "Delete all board cookies". Then login with "remember me" checked.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
It looks like a bug from the cubes theme caused by setting the font size for topic tools, sorting options, jump to and maybe other places to 18px. This also changed the contact icons from a size of 0 to 18px. Fixed now in the united3d-cubes theme.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
it doesn't completly log my in either. Chrome browser remembers my name and password but it doesn't finish logging me in unless I click on logon and also check the box for remember me.
See attached image. I get that blue screen useing this short cut link: . This takes me to a blue logon scheme as shown on the attached image: I then must
click remember me and click on Login.
If I used this saved short cut :
"in ... df3290a6cb ",
then I am logged in as desired. This shortcut was copied and saved after I completed teh logon from the one above that does not completely login me in.

Not really a good idea as new people won't join forum. Put the attachments at least back under members only.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Wish it wasn't so but there aren't going to be many new members who really participate.
I like checking on the forum and seeing images without logging in. It is convenient for me.
How to attract new members?
- Strategy A: Gain members by requiring visitors to join to see images.
This seems focused on quantity rather than quality of members. People who join just to see pictures aren't going to be real participating members. They will look and leave. That is the same as look-n-leave with visitor visible images except it leaves clutter of non-participating members. Didn't y'all clean out a ton of inactive "members" some time ago?
- Strategy B: Gain new members by showing interesting content (images, text, possibly downloads) to everyone. Quality focused. IMO, those who do join would be people intent on participating rather than passers-by who just want to look. The "visible to all" images would be seen in search engines. That exposure could increase traffic here and put more people in that small percentage that would join to become real members. A bad effect is it makes downloading and using our images without permission easy. Some members might not want that.
Magic images
If our images have such recruiting power that people who join to see them are encouraged to become real participating members then why not show those images to as many as possible?
Members only
What I would like to see banned from membership is the search bots and other bots. If some stuff (thread, images, whatever) is members only then the bots have no business seeing it.
Members should have abilities to make their content members only. They might not want all their content visible to all. The ability to mark a thread or post as members only when creating it would be good. Members only section would serve this purpose too.
It would also be good if members could mark images as non-downloadable and the easy ways of downloading wouldn't work.
Stan has a point about attachments. Resources like scripts/plugins, models, etc. might not be intended for just everyone to get. Members only options such as above would handle that.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
I would vouch for more openness... have anyone download or view at anytime. There isn't much to hide or keep a privalage - and really trueSpace being open and whatever in the forums also will just promote what I like about the software and unitedness - friendliness and easy access to everything.
But yeah, if it could be toggled private is good. Like a "contains nudity" tag.
Anyway, good work on the forums again Clinton and all others who did it all. I do miss being here more often...

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
It's not possible to separate the attachments from the images because they are one and the same setting in the board. It should be possible to setup a members only section and restrict guests there, but I personally wouldn't have any interest in it.

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Yes we cleaned out hundreds of inactive members leaving old ts folks. There is still more that could go, but will leave them until the next purge. One type of member I try to remove are forum savvy spammers who just put their website link on the profile and never come back. There also seems to just be people who join sites to put a weird name with no intention of actually coming back.
But we did get the Delineator join a few weeks back, an old member Tim V.
As for not being able to split images and scripts then I'd say go back to what we had.
Finis can just login to see images or stay logged in. Most sites don't give access to those things unless you are a member. We shouldn't either.
New real members may be few and far between, but they do happen.

Found some inconsistency in the attachment/image permissions. All is open to guests as read only except for Members Only, Forum Requests and Important Announcements.

Final permissions.
Guests can see images/attachments in all forums except:
SDK forum - guests cannot see images/attachments
Shared Space forum - completely hidden from guests because of the exposed ip addresses of the hosts.
Members Only forum under Off Topic - hidden and cannot be seen by guests because that's the way it was originally setup.

Avoid using www.united3dartists.comSaul wrote: 27 Sep 2019, 18:54 Download trueSpace

This page all links bar the unofficial update broken.
Use united3dartists.com without the www
The last update lost the change restricting the website to not use www
Hopefully, I can find the mod and put it back in place.

What I have discovered when clicking on a link like this, is do not select any links on the newly opened page, or you will be logged out!

Yahoo! First time I opened this forum from tS7.61's (Unofficially Updated Version) File/Help/United 3D Artist menu, it worked with my theme and logged in. Yippie!

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
It probably wasn't working before because the link wasn't secure.
Yesterday, I restored a change on the site that forces secure connection, https
I recommend changing the link to "https://united3dartists.com" for security and maximum link compatibility. Add https and remove www

Re: Website and Forums Progress Report
Are you talking about the tS761B8v5 File/Help/United 3D Artist - Command?
If so, I do not think that is possible.

Ah, I see, it changes to https//united3dartists.com so it doesn't work.
