Soildworks

Post by rjeff »

I have been learning this program, for my new job, and wow is it pretty awesome. You have to throw out your traditional way of modeling to use this program. You don't start off with primitives like in TS or other programs. You start off with a 2D sketch then extruding it. To add features to the object you just select the face you want to draw on a just draw a new 2D line and go from there. What I like about it, it the fact that it does not deal with faces. So your objects can be complex and not bog your system down to much.

Moi 3d is almost on the same page... it also works pretty much the same way and
the good part of it is it is pretty affordable and easy to use.....
those are cad or nurbs programs...
Truespace was a program that was a poly software most part... but with nurbs like feeling..
thats what People liked most of it without knowing it !

...and there was a plugin to convert TS nurbs to iges that can be used in moi3d. But now TS nurbs have no interest when i see the power of modern nurbs software.
It is difficult to compare nurbs and polygones. They have not the same goal. It is complementary.

There is a free edition of Solidworks? I had a hard enough time finding a trial version. Would you have a link to where I can pick that up?

The free version of their software is called draftsight. you can find it here ... http://www.solidworks.com/sw/products/f ... nloads.htm

You will get regular emails offering white papers on solidworks etc but it is not too bad a load.

Thanks for that. Once my 30 day is over I will install that and see what it is like.
