Re: SMC #68: Crazy Christmas Critter: COMMENTS
Ah, the prize you can win for the best Christmas crazy critter has images collected from Deviant Art, other prortfolio websites and Tumblr; among other random sources. Themes include science fiction, cg pinup girls and illustrations, fantasy, landscapes and cityscapes.
I take no credit or ownership of other peoples art, and simply wish to promote them.
Hope you win!

Yay! Hope you can compete Finis, you're good at this stuff. =)
I have a question. Since i'm hosting the SMC, does that mean I can't compete? Or can I compete and just not vote for me?

Re: SMC #68: Christmas Crazy Critter: COMMENTS
You can do what you want to. (It is like the TV show Lost. You are in charge of the island and have the power.)
Prodigy didn't enter when he won SMC's because his ability is so awesome that he won all the time.
Some make an unofficial project that isn't entered in the poll.
I don't do an entry when I run a challenge. When I'm a contestant I will vote for my entry if I honestly think it is the best.

Re: SMC #68: Christmas Crazy Critter: COMMENTS
I always try to enter a rendering if I'm running a MMC or SMC but I let it be known that it cannot win. If it does receive the most votes then second place gets to run the next one.

Re: SMC #68: Christmas Crazy Critter: COMMENTS
Everyone enter the SMC.
In hopes of increasing participation in challenges lets try just one challenge at a time to funnel all participants together. No MMC for a while*. The idea is that the winner picks the theme and makes the rules, as usual, and now also sets the type of the next challenge (like an MMC or an SMC or a texture challenge, lighting challenge, etc.)
Draise: If you agree with beginning a single challenge system with this SMC (you are SMC king right now so it is up to you) then modify your rules to note that the winner also determines the nature of the next challenge.
I suggest it be called the U3DA Challenge starting with the next one ... as long as there is just one anyway.
Steinie: put your entry in the main SMC thread.
*If we do this then the winner of this SMC could make the next challenge MMC-like if he wants.

Re: SMC #68: Christmas Crazy Critter: COMMENTS
I entered. Urban Chameleon is a wild creature suited to urban life. He can change color and partially change shape to blend in.
The model started from an eight sided cylinder. Point editing added legs and modified the head. Textures are made from the photos. I clone brushed a sign out of the background photo and added a stop sign from another. The urban chameleon was rendered with a white background and a shadow catcher and layered onto the image in Paint Shop. I separated the shadow and adjusted it to better blend with the image.

The first time I won a challenge on the old Caligari forums I made a poll like this vi ... 67&p=11128" to practice making polls. It got a few laughs.Draise wrote:Ok, now I gotta figure out how to make polls.

Does the critter have to be a animal/insect or can it be a person?

Re: SMC #68: Christmas Crazy Critter: COMMENTS
Here is my submission for the SMC.
I modeled everything you see here.
The main portion of the figure was done earlier this year.
I had to add 8 different morph targets to the face to get the right look.
The jacket, pants, hat, bucket and can I modeled tonight and added the hair.
The morph targets to the face were also don tonight.
I will post the images showing the production of all the other items tomorrow.
For now here is our friendly Santa after a hard days work as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
I guess I was a little late in providing a submission, my bad didnt realize that it had already ended.

Crikey! The votes are about to end, and they came out with equal votes! Harsh dual!!!
Also, tho late, we have another entry! WHAT TO DO!?!? Can we redo the votes with the new entry? Just for fun? I don't know who the winner should be..... And I gotta get my prize ready!
So, with 3 entries, and a second shot for the prize, shall we vote again?

I see 5 votes for Steinie and 3 for me. Maybe the poll ran longer than when you checked. If there is a second vote I think it should be between Jeff and Steinie since I was eliminated in the first round (and I voted for Steinie).

Hey this is the first SMC I've ever won!!
(I won a few MMCs, so my talent is really working long hours trying to hide the mess I made modeling incomprehensible polys into some ambiguous idea no one gets...)(I just wanted to clear that up)
I'd like to thank Roman for his software regardless of the fact he no longer visits or supports trueSpace like we do...cough cough.
(Was it just monetary to him? hmmmmm)
I want to thank all of YOU the U3DA fellow artist who are the true trueSpace pioneers
(Donner Party now seating...)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party"
I also want to thank Draise for awarding cool prizes and adding fresh enthusiasm to our group.

Congratulations!
Remember that I'm not starting another MMC, for a while, as an experiment to have a mono-challenge (starting from the SMC) to concentrate participation in a single challenge. If you choose to then make your challenge the first U3DA Challenge, or whatever, by also choosing its nature (MMC, SMC, texture, whatever you think of).
