Finished the First Part of the Viperfish

Post by Kenc3 »

Now that I have a toothless Viperfish, where does the tutorial go from there. Is that the end and I am on my own or is there more?
I do have enough information now to really mess things up. LOL.
Actually, I think I can now use what I have learned and try to make my toadstool house. I will run into a few challenges I am sure but, I know that there are a lot of helpers out there for me.
thanks for all the help so far. :bananatyping:

KenC,
Jack Edwards has stated in the past that he might continue
the tutorials but don't hold your breath. He is way too busy with
other projects at the moment.
If the Caligari Site is shutdown, his tutorial will also vanish. (Microsoft
now owns the rights)

Asking for a full tutorial would take too much time for most users here.
I would suggest asking how to do a particular skill set but be specific.
I think you would get more responses this way.

Ask for screen grabs to illustrate.

"How do I model teeth for a Viper Fish and which tools would you use?"

That is how most of us taught ourselves trueSpace and other 3D Applications,
one tool at a time.

Larger tutorials like "How to Do Interior Lighting With Lightwave"
would be beneficial to a large audience. The time to create that tutorial
means a huge commitment by an Artist.

I did manage to do a quits search on Yahoo last night before retiring and found a lot of tutorials for different things that were put out by various people. They were on their own websites so I am not sure if they will stay or not.
One was a dragonfly and another site had a complete list of them.
I plan to begin the viperfish one more time to see if I can do it better and remember a bit more. (I had to take the next math class in college before I the class before it made any sense. I think this means I am a slow learner.)
Anyway, I plan to remain here and continue to learn.
I am going out to look for a Wacom Bamboo if the weather holds. We may have another big rain which floods us in here. :bananatyping:

Yeah, gotta agree with Steinie on this one. Much as I wanted to, I can't really see any market for doing finishing the course in trueSpace. With the economy the way it is, I really can't keep spending months of my life working on non-paying projects. Sorry :bananasad:

I've sort of come to a crisis point. With interest in trueSpace plugins further waning, I'm reaching the point where it might not be worth the effort to continue with the plugin projects either. And I can't in good faith ask for you guys to continue supporting them either, since even if everyone here paid $20 per plugin every time a plugin was released, that's still less money per hour than I'd make flipping burgers or washing dishes part-time.

And to be honest, sales are pathetically slow. I've haven't sold a single copy of the Procedural Animation Toolkit, and I know Froo hasn't even recouped a fraction of the time he put out for the OBJ Importer. I'm willing to bet that even if we gave the plugins away for free (like I've done with the YafaRay4tS add-on), the number of actual users could probably be counted on two hands.

I wish it wasn't the case but this has always been the way of trueSpace plugin development. This isn't something new. It's the same reason that all the 3rd party developers left before.

I apologize for being so negative about it, but there's some hard choices that I need to make that I've been putting off for way too long.

Thanks for the education you have given me.
I really appreciate it. I know how you feel and I also know how people are.
Hang in there and stay with what you must do.
Thanks again. :bananacheers:

Hi Jack,

I'm very sorry to read about your disappointment. I don't have a need for animation at present but I wanted to support your efforts so I just purchased a copy of your Procedural Animation Toolkit. Now you can say that at least one copy has sold. :) I know, it's still pathetic. :(

Best regards, First Light

Thanks First Light! :bananacheers:

Hopefully you'll get some use out of it!
At the least it should also be useful to those looking to learn scripting, as the code inside the bricks can be used to teach how to script in trueSpace. From the simple math bricks to the more complex generator bricks there's a lot of interesting stuff in there. :geek:

And you're welcome Kenc3!

I certainly see J. Edwards point of view. For my part, struggling to learn how to use the tools, I don't know what plugins I should be acquiring. What is the OBJ exporter used for and the Procedural Animation Toolkit certainly sounds interesting (an old stop motion animator here). But, again is it something I can handle?
In another post LightWave posed the idea that perhaps some tutorials show casing the plugins might be beneficial. But then again, we run into a lot of time and effort for what will probably prove to be little return.
