5 Months to backup CaliForum
Seems MS and Caligari accepted to keep the CaliForum for another 5 months..
That should give us enough time to backup and save our work..
Thanks.

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
Well, maybe not. You have to allow for the possibility that it will crash sometime over that period - particularly with high use and lots of people downloading. Not sure who will be around to restart it if it does crash.

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
Very impressive how this is coming together. Are we going to basically backup what we can on the forums at Caligari? How do we support forums here? It is donation based?

what wrong with just one guy do the backup and the whole community can benefit??
Have you asked them nicely for direct mirror of the hard disk at the physical location? Too much of great information from community would be lost!

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
Greetings,
The way I archive web content is to create a pdf of it. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Pro or a 3rd-party pdf creator for this and I don't recommend it if there is video content. But for text and images, it does a very good job of preserving not only the content of a forum thread, but also the look.
Plus, you can append content to a pdf document. This enables you to collect a multi-page thread into a single document.
Best regards, First Light

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
If anyone is feeling extra-ambitious, don't forget that there is the whole 'original' forum that could also be archived.
It's linked on the current Caligari forum under the 'CaliArchive' link: http://forums.caligari.com/discus/messa ... opics.html

I think we should preserve as there are invaluable knowledge that has been discussed in these forum.
The truespace forum community leader should just transfer all the forums to a single desinated forum or put the information on the code depositry like sourceforge or google so we could all access to.

Just a stupid question - is it allowed to present anything on my private website. I.e. the SDK and files for it or TS himself?

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
From my understanding, non product by caligari/microsoft can be distributed without direct permission. Call it, Truespace, SDK, Vray for Truespace or TrueServe.
In other hand you are free to distribute Trueplay and/or any plugin or object made by you..
Sad that anyone from Caligari-Microsoft had the influence or the good will at least to leave Truespace as a Open source software..

It is time to get serious about Caligari site backup. I saw some posts but I am not sure what the best process would be. Let us arrive at a consensus so we can implement it quickly. Please post suggestions right here.

Nice to see you Roman, want to be an Ambassador?
We do have access to this Archive.
http://www.awportals.com/archives/truespace/"
Is there anything we can do about any of the tutorials or software?
Can the software be saved by you and Microsoft so that others can
have access to them?
Most of us have been saving like crazy however my concern is new users.
Any thoughts on how we can do this?

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
When I received the news about Caligari site goings down I thought I had just 2 days (don't know why...) I was like crazy downloading all tutorials, images and animations as possible, even my school performance gets shaken...
I think that we need more donates to can upload the tutorials here - with your concern of course - to then new users can download the tutorials, also I hope (I now that is hopeless, but I still have hope) that you (Microsoft) loose 7.61 download license to us to be the official download site of TS while people have interest. But we need a lot of donations, I already talked to myself that if I encounter 50 bucks lose on the ground I would donate to U3DA, I know that the owner of the money would be proud to contribute to an more creative world...
So I think it is, also I would like to know which generous soul did that archive...
Cya
PS: Roman check your PMs, I sent to you a message long time ago and you haven't opened it yet, I'm afraid that if I send another message (PM) to tell you to check your PMs nothing happens...

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
btw I downloaded all the tutorials and program from these two pages here - http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSp ... undamental" and here - http://www.caligari.com/downloads.html" I don't know what half the other stuff is but I grabbed it just in-case. I've got a lot to still learn about the program but I'm not going anywhere since I don't give up. I would be willing to share with new users the files as long as its not agent the copyright.
Will the site with the plug-ins be going goodbye when they take down the main site and forum?

Welcome Alteysha!
Yeah I think is pretty much it you have to download. Do you have downloaded the Master and Older Courses too? Or just the fundamental ones? Is good to download all.
Greetings from Brazil!

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
OK I know this a thread that was destined for archive, but I have a question which using the search engine didn't help me with.
Has anybody got a link to a backup of the caligari forums. BUT I don't mean the forum backup
that is here:
http://www.awportals.com/archives/truespace/"
As at least on my computer all the images are not there which means its text only.
Several people at the time indicated that they had backed things up, but now I have no idea who they were or whether the backups are accessible to the general user over the web.
Any ideas (before this thread closes)

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
A quick bump...
So, despite all the helpful offers at the time, the silence seems to indicate we have lost all the old forum posts (at least with regards to images...which of course were a rather important dimension of them)
If you are reading this Roman, did you guys do any backing up?
In hope still.....Chris

Re: 5 Months to backup CaliForum
Thanks trueblue -sorry for my late response...been away from here awhile.
I did try searching using the forums.caligari.com but didn't get anything. So I searched on Caligari.com and then got lists from many years back.
I went to 2008 and got the front page of the website, but when I clicked on the forums tab it the links broke down. I tried again just before posting this and i got one step further -that is I got through to the forum main page but then again link died.
Maybe I should try first thing in the morning when the US is still asleep

Bitkar,
I did what you asked and here is the response:
Please note: Your entry contains errors
Your offer is too low.
Premium domain names typically sell for three or four-figure amounts, and sellers will simply not respond to a bid if it is too low. If you need help setting a price, you can request an expert Domain Appraisal. You are REQUIRED to enter a bid of at least 60 USD.
Unfortunately, your offer is too low and cannot be accepted. Please submit an offer above the seller's minimum bid threshold of 500 USD.
Caligari still has value!!
