FrooSpace online again

Post by froo »

Hi everyone. I restarted FrooServe. Should be ok; no power outages lately.

address:

//frooserve.dyndns.org/1109

Only the default space with some goodies from Rhino and Pugman, leonregis and others.
Thanks for the presents guys! :superbanana:
I did not cache that scene yet so please be patient on loading.

Once the move is over, at end of February, I hope we can do some fun stuff
in there. :bananacheers:

Froo,

I have been there and noticed the slower load...how much quicker is it when it is cached? Is this a feature in trueserve..the cache scene button?

Hi Rhino.
That's a command that I submit using the command screen; like a DOS window, sort of. The command can be put into a button of course.
Yes, cacheing should increase the scene download considerably.

Basically, when that command is run on a scene/object, then, the next time you login to the space, the scene and/or objects which have been cached will be downloaded to a directory on your computer. So, when you login after that, all those objects are already on your computer, so they do not need to be downloaded to your machine again.

Thanks patti! I powered down the computers before we left, to ensure no hung spinning hard drives.
Yeah when we get back we really gotta get packin! We found a house that works for us, so that's over with.
We will finally have enough room, all on one floor. This house is a ranch; 2300 sq. feet. No more stairs. Woohoo!

ok well, FrooSpace is not online *Yet*, but I will try to get it configured this weekend.
We have more unpacking to do, including the computers. We got internet access setup
on the laptop for now, but we'll need a router most likely (wireless preferred since now
our desks are at opposite corners of the office). We'll see how it goes!

PING BADA BING!

Anyone interested in this? I can try to get it running again if there's interest.
Sorry it's taken so long. Man this unpacking has taken a long time, this time!
Geez! Feb. 22 - May 23. Phew! That's 3 months. Man.
Anyway. Maybe we can get something going.

Wow. Too long.
I will see if I can get FrooServe back up again. Should be really simple.
I need to see if I can configure my router at home, to assign static ip addresses.
I have to reset the router from time to time, since we lose our net connection.
When I do, the computers get their local ip addresses reassigned. Kind of a pain
to have to muddle with that.

I was thinking, about a space, that would look like a screening room, with
some seats, a movie screen, etc. so we could screen animation shorts, images,
works in progress, etc. I think that'd be pretty cool.

EDIT BEGIN:
BTW; we could work on that room together, if anyone is interested. That would be
a fun collaborative project. Someone could model the chairs, another, some nice
theater lighting, etc. Beside, my modelling skills are not as good as my coding skills. :ugeek:
EDIT END
Also, while I am at it, ever wonder about Star Wars: those Tie Fighter pilots
needed to train on training grounds didn't they? That'd be a cool animation.

Hi Froo
Re Tie fighter pilots, one of the early Xwing games for PC, Dos game circa 1993?, had a very cool training ground scenario that pilot had to undertake before being allowed into game proper. Taught correct use of the stick etc. Never got beyond it myself, mainly 'cos i got addicted to Doom, very painfull 12 months of my life!

Yes, that's correct MikomDude.

Hey Leon. You need 7.61.

In 7.61, the address is, as MikomDude pointed out,

trueserve.dyndns.org/1109
