UFO Footage
Here's some UFO "footage".
http://www.vimeo.com/16548606"
The object was rendered from trueSpace 6.6. Tracking/matching was done in SynthEyes.
My goal with this was to stir up a bit of excitement for the locals. I live in a quiet town.

Thanks!
It did start out complex, with all kinds of wiry-looking thingies and "nernies" (to use a term from an old tS book) but I decided to just make it a rectangle. LOL!

Hi Steinie!
Thank you!
Indeed, I'm still making the wooden rings!
I've gotten a few requests for bracelets and have considered offering them, but the rings keep me going pretty steady.
I really appreciate your feedback!

Re: UFO Footage
Looks nice, but I would like to see it move. I like that it's not saucer, cigar or triangle shaped like every other UFO.

Re: UFO Footage
Ha ha!
Thanks, guys!
I captured quite a bit of footage, and may do some from different angles.
Even have one where I'm walking beneath the water tower with the camera pointing up. Nice part is the sky was totally BLUE... no clouds. ...so it's easy to key out and have the foreground elements appear to be in front of the CG craft.
(That's how I keyed it out to be "behind" the trees on the first part.)
Thanks for all the comments!

Re: UFO Footage
Found out that NIGHT footage is actually easier (in some ways*) than daytime. In this case I captured some footage with a single star, which was used as a track point. Exported the 2D data to AfterEffects, dropped in some glowy white dots (made in Photoshop), parented to the 2D null track data, then animated each one.
* In the case of small white dots... but not for larger objects, where you'll want to match grain. To me, the easiest way to accomplish that would be to capture camera noise with the lens cap on (at the same ISO you'll be shooting at) and overlaying that on the original + CG comp.

Didn't use trueSpace in this one, but I figure it's ok to post it: (?)
