I cannot get macrosweep to work with a dxf handrail profle. There is no fixed outcome and the methods and the outcomes just don't make sense. Has anyone figured out the macroseep tool? This is for a simple 90 degree handrail. Thanks!

Does anyone use the macrosweep tool with success?

For a simple 90 degree sweep I'd just use regular Sweep tool.

MacroSweep uses paths from the path (not curve) library, or the last executed sweep/tip operation, the selected face is then swept along this path. Animation paths or spline polygons can also be used for macrosweep paths.

Pros: It can be a fast way to create complex shapes.
Cons: Difficult to rotate/position the path relative to the face. Can't scale path.

When I tried the sweep tool it would sweep one segment and the path would disappear. I am using a path from the path library. I would continually add the path over and over while sweeping and when it reached the 90 degree bend it would sweep right by it. What am I doing wrong?

I'd say that what you are doing wrong is: you are using the macro sweep tool. It does not work well so don't use it.

Thanks Spacekdet for the tutorial! It was helpful. Here is a tutorial on how to make 90 degree handrails converting dwg files in Rhino 3d to dxf files for use in truespace. Use the polygon tool to draw your 90 degree handrail in truespace and save it in the path library. Next import the dwg file into Rhino3d and highlight it. Next export the selected file as a dxf under 2004 lines. I'll be back in an hour and finish this tutorial! Sorry I had this tutorial almost completed and my computer crashed. Anyone interested in a screen capture tutorial with the required settings for Rhino3d and Truespace? If so I will post it tomorrow!
