Animation question

Post by horusra »

Thanks to those who answered my last question.

I have an animation question or looking for general advice.
These questions pertain to TS 5.1 sp2

1. I have made an animation for a friend of mine for his Youtube channel. Its simple, just his name, two words, both slide in from either side to meet at the middle, black background, blue letters, the letters were swept (sweep). After the letters meet and while they are sitting there for the 3-4 seconds I allotted to that, there seems to be a slight flicker or movement going round the edges of all the letters. I didnt (well at least intentionally) animate any lights, just the letters initial movement. Lights are tagged for shadow. Render options are high, raycast, 4xanti, raytracing.

2. All these years (unfortunately. I should be kicked I guess) I really havent messed with animation much in TS, mostly still art, etc. But I was wondering; I know u can render to different res and all that, but in the render to file (animation) what is a good general setting, e.g., the 720x480 ntsc and all those. I have checked my hard copy manual and also my copy of inside ts 4 and not a whole lot of info about this.

As always any help is most kindly appreciated.
happy holidays

youtube can now do hd video too so you can go up to anything like the 720p format....(since dec 2008)
thats 1280x720 with progressive scan and something like 24 or 25 frames that has to do also with the country you are in......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television"
youtube can have lower resolution too like 480

since nov 2009 also 1080p and since July 2010 in 4K quality..... ;)

Format of movie is really simple today. some years ago it was very difficult. ntsc or pal resolution are for dvd. these format have pixels deformed to match with the standard of old tv when we used analogic system a long time ago. Movie on pc and now hd tv use square pixels that is more useful to convert in different size without thinking about the format of the tv (i mean pal, secam or ntsc, it depend of the country). youtube and internet is international. Digital movie resolve the problem of analogic standard since we use hd movie in 16/9 format. The same for all.
Today full hd standard is 1920x1080 named 1080 (i or p). some cam recorder work with a 1440x1080 but the movie is allways converted in 1920x1080 for the tv to match with 16/9 tv.
the best for youtube is 1280x720 (first hd standard) or 640x360 for all countries (most have not enought bandwish to read a big movie). all these format are real 16/9
what you need to do is:
1- create a 1280x720 movie with TS (uncompressed images) to avoid artefact (it seem is what you have with yours letters). 25 frame /s
2- use another soft to convert the video for youtube (h264 codec for the video and mp3 for the sound)
3- reduce 50% if you want a smaller video (640x360) that work better for those who have not enought speed to read movie. 640x360 is also the standard size of the player when you open youtube.

Thanks Rayman and Marcel for the info.

I did reduce the compression and I also put it at 0 and to no effect, still got a flashing effect to the words, kind of like a single shimmer or flash while it sits still. I've tried some different settings under render options and it didnt seem to make a difference.

Also I meant to ask, does anyone know of a real good Key Frame Editor Tutorial, but not the one on the mothership's site, that didnt go into enough of the workings of the editor? I also looked at the chapter in Inside Truespace 4, it wasn't bad but it left a lot of the how to's out.

kind regards
Rob
