Lothissen Project

Post by lothissen »

I started this project a long time ago but it kind of stalled.

Just thought i'd post this. A character i started working on today. It's the start of Ragnar, the Norse King.

When he's textureed he'll have a scar across his left eye and one on his chin.

He goes into battle wearing a wolfs head helmet (which i haven't modelled yet!)

Once he's finished i'm going to rig, texture and render him in lightwave.

Very nice work Lothissen

You've made a very good job on the mouth too, for me one of the most difficult parts to model..

keep the good work.

wow, very good indeed... never tried this before...

looks like a tedious and timeconsuming job, how long did it take you to get to this stage?

Thanks Prodigy. Still got a bit of work to do on the mouth, just a defining line around it i think. Wanted him to have a bit of an arrogant sneer on his face.

I find the nose a hard area to get right.

This one was quite quick for me, about 3 hours i think. I was using one of the reference pics i posted in the
'hints and tips' section the other day as a guide.

Get the basic shapes in there then start adding more loops and tweeking it and it starts to come together.

Nice work! Masculine characters are harder than female characters because there's more muscle and structure needed. This is progressing very well. :bananathumb:

Yeah it's the muscle structure i'm trying to get right. Want him to be quite a big, solid character. Kind of Conan the Barbarian or Druss type person.

Found a few tutorials that are helping and ImagineFX's Bodywork articles are good too.

I´m not sure how much detail you want to put into this character, or if he will be covered by cloth. But you should have some circular edge loops around the belly button. The zone around the bladebones also doesn´t seem right either. Other than that I think it´s progressing nicely.

I should mention this model was exported directly from the workspace using Froo's excellent OBJ Exporter plugin:

The use of sds provides round form. First you must begin by defining the curved sides and edges formed by the intersection of muscles (red line in the image). These intersections should be made with 2 edges very close. These lines are the most important for the design of the character. The edge loop is the most used but not the better function to do that because these lines need to have a end at a particular position in the body. Then this is a problem of proportion and personal interpretation.
