Well its like this sometimes.. a friend of mine posted about a new
gadget..a foldable 24 inch monitor that you can put into your pocket..
well since back projection is an old hat.. and my friend is a photographer
I wrote back...why are you so thrilled.. you got a ton of bank lights all
you have to do is open one up and mount a mini beamer for
100$ inside one....! But then it made click in my head.. and I had
an idea..what if one points a mini beamer thats connected to your computer onto a piece of paper that you stick onto a cheap wacom pad or an offspin of Wacom..!
If you get the alignment right you should be able to paint or sculpt
right onto the 3d object.....for an ULTRA low budget!!! Havent tried it
out yet but in theory it MUST work!!!!!!

Reminds me of what I was planning and investigating to do with two sheets of acrylic, a row of Infrared LED's around the edge, and an infrared camera (converted webcam - just take out the IR lens off al webcams) and some software that can interpret the acryllic shadows into multitouch input with some opensource drivers. I then had a plan to create and calibrate a projector behind the acryllic to create a large touch screen.

All to DJ on, the audience could see what you were doing, and I could too, a touch table at a cheap price - then using a Midi multitouch emulator.. I could drive the software with my fingers.

The only downside.... Acrillic sheets were kinda expensive, and the videobeam too - and no preasure sensitivity - and the webcam I had a low latency, low FPS, like 15FPS. To read fingerprintings, it was not precise enuogh for what I wanted to do with it. Overall, with the price of the videobeam at the time - I realized it was just as cheap to buy a multitouch monitor or a touch screen laptop that would come out a year or two later.

I did get the prototype working with the IR light from the sun or some light bulbs. I also got it working with Spectrum light - all on glass and cardboard - and without the LED IR light bands.

Now I have a black and white camera that works with IR light... and not much else to show from it. lol

Draise ! I have the Wacom Computer with the screen .. only downside is ist only 13 Inch but ist good and small.. but I also bought
a used (second hand)and pretty cheap BIG Wacom and I´m missing the feeling of direct manipulation with it !
I get that running in a few days ! I´ll Report back !
