When a color picker is needed, I recommend using one that supports the HSB (hue, saturation, brightness) model. It is sometimes labeled "HSV" or "HSL". It's advantage is that you can easily select multiple shades of the same color. For example, if you start with an orange color with a hue of 20 degrees, you can then select different shades of orange by varying the percentage of its saturation and brightness.
A saturation of 100% and a brightness of 100% would be the pure color with greatest intensity. Reducing the saturation moves the shade lighter toward white. Reducing the brightness moves the shade darker toward black.
This kind of thing is impossible to do when working only with RGB (red, green, blue) values.

Yes that's true..
I use color pickers when i need to know a specific blue color for a sky for example, a background color for a website.. etc.. i rarely use HLS but im agree in some cases HLS is great and accurate.
