Audtodesk Softimage Killed by Autodesk.

Post by Draise »

Softimage Future

Sad day.... truespace all over again, but with a bigger, and a very capable software; used by Wiskeytree in Elysium, Lego Movie by Animal Logic and other major productions.... a very capable software.. killed, just like that.. and it's my work house.....

This is a very sad day for me....... I have invested a lot of time learning this software, with large projects made in this program. It is very sad to see it go, and it is even sadder that I would have to learn another package to reach any kind of quality this software could do somewhat easily......

I am very sad... :( :(

yup sad..... I have the feeling that the 3d industry is somewhat imploding.....!
The less competition there is the higher the price for software......
just thinking out loud.... :(

No commercially available 3D software is safe.
Production companies are creating their own solutions to suit particular pipelines, the big developers are helping them and it is unlikely that these solutions will be released to the general public. 3D software is a niche interest and it is increasingly unfeasible to market these solutions to hobbyists, not least because, it is claimed, an average of 92% of installed software is pirated.
Where's the profit in making and marketing a product to sell to amateurs if they gonna steal it anyway?
If any commercially available 3D software is worth commitment it is Side Effects Houdini, a toolbox of nodes that can be made to do whatever user wants, sorta, no more asking a developer for particles to be implemented, you can make them yourself!
We are at the end of the beginning!

Blender is taking over the casual/hobbyist market. Free is difficult to beat.

Shhhhh... keep it on the low low.
The moment the big names realize how Blender is THE challenger, the more ill attention it will get and they'll buy it out or stifle it For Sure. Just everybody tip toe quietly over to Blender, make the effort to learn it, and you will be rewarded in many ways. Just trust, and you will see. And if you want to buy me a beer in the future as a thank you for the prodding... just gimme a call.

Draise, what you are going through now is what I went through when tS got sold. (tS got sold, and we got sold out).
Betrayal it felt like. The money I had spent and the HOURS of learning... almost all out the window.
I feel ya buddy.

Very sad indeed. Blender, will more then likely become the standard as far as free modeling software. Softimage, unfortunately, is sadly a victim of large companies acquiring software just to gain their intellectual assets like Microsoft did with Caligari and then deep six them....
